Ohio State 48, Iowa 53 (Final)

We are going to have our hands full tonight, because of how bad we beat them the first time, but that should also give our guys some confidence, since we played so well against them, and hopefully we come out and make them lay down again...Probably see another game like PSU, struggle to break away in the first half and then we hopefully take over in the second half...

Iowa, on the other hand, brought the embarrassment of losing by 31 points at Ohio State on Wednesday, a depleted roster and a 7-9 record into the game.
In the end, new Hawkeye head coach Todd Lickliter got his first Big Ten victory.
Iowa held Michigan State to it's lowest point total since 1952.
Sure this will be a harder game than the first one , it's in their house for one thing, another is that they haved played together more (and better)
They beat MSU too.
But we will win.

Defensive switch has Ohio St. in a zone

When Ohio State manhandled the Iowa basketball team by 31 points early last month, both teams were in a zone.

The Buckeyes blended some half-court defensive pressure with an extended

2-3 zone to rout a Hawkeyes team that found itself in the twilight zone.

?We went over there, laid down and they pounded us, Iowa guard Tony Freeman said. Thats why it was so lopsided. It was embarrassing.

The zone Ohio State was in added to that embarrassment.

In fact, a zone defense has helped the Buckeyes build a 16-6 record this season, a day coach Thad Matta never expected to see.

Its not something I ever envisioned . my teams have almost always been exclusively man-to-man teams ? but looking at our team last summer, I thought it might be the best thing for us,? Matta said.

The talent level alone should win this game for us. The effort and maturation should decide the spread. The thing that is worrying is that the effort by every man isnt the same every night. The maturation should be drastically improved since the start of the season. Is it? For some guys I'd say definitely yes but others, no.

I dont expect us to go in there and win by 30 points like we did earlier in the year but we should get this one by 10-14 points with effort and smart basketball. We're a month away from the tourney and the time to turn the corner is now if they are going to turn it this season. I'm not down on our guys at all just observing the crucial nature of the next month of games. Crucial to our teams confidence and ability as well as the postseason placement of this team should they earn it. I also want to continue Thad Mattas 20 win season streak!

If we dont roll in this game and win by double digits then the doubts about how far this team might go this season will start to steamroll. They've had enough time to gel and mature, the time is now to start the marked improvement by winning these games they should definitely win.

I'm going to be a bit harsh but that is complete nonsense.

A) You never base an entire season off one basketball game. We've had already had some really ugly games and come back from them and we've even had some really ugly starts to games and kept on fighting. This team isn't going to cave because we "only" won by a few points.
B) Do you even know how incredibly difficult it is to dominate a conference foe on their court with revenge on their minds? You don't think they'll be chomping at the bit to get us back for what we did to them in Columbus?
C) We've never had a lot of success at Iowa.
D) This is a very different Iowa team from the one we faced earlier this season. They beat MSU at home and nearly beat Purdue on the road. That is impressive no matter which way you slice it.

Just give me a W and I'll be content.

Iowa beat Sparty at Iowa and just lost a one pointer at Purdue. Forget the 30 point victory because it won't be easy this time.

We don't need to "roll" in this game. We need to win it.
