Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

Louisville, KY ain't Los Angelas, CA. USC is LA's de facto pro football team.

Agreed, the guy is loved here in SoCal, people talk about him like he's some mythical figure. Our closest pro team is San Diego, about 120 miles from LA and trust me, just because both are in Southern California doesn't mean they like each other. California is funny like that, if you tell people in S.D. they live in the LA area you will get quickly corrected.

If he wanted to take a job in the NFL, last year would have been ideal, he had a great opportunity but made it very clear he was happy being the head coach of the Trojans, so I don't see him making the jump to the Falcons.

And here it's different. I think if they could get away with it, people in Cleveland would say Cincinatti was a suburb of Cleveland. When places over an hour away are considered part of Cleveland you know you have issues.

Still time for things to change, but:

Times-Standard Online - Staying in school: Trip to Eureka brings clarity for Maualuga

”I'm just gonna stay. I'm not in a rush. I'm gonna take it slow,” said Maualuga, who played for Eureka High, class of 2005. “I just wanted to explore the thought of leaving.”
And he arrived back at the same thought he had before getting on the plane. The NFL will still be there next year, but the chance to claim a national championship won't.
”I've still got a lot of growing up to do on the football field,” Maualuga said. “I thought about it hard and prayed on it. The answer was right in front of my face on whether I wanted to take that step. Hopefully we can make a run at the national championship.”

I'm excited for this game. I've played it many times over, reliving the glory with my WR in NCAA 08.

It should be a good game as long as we don't beat ourselves like we did in NOLA. Without the stupid penalties, that game quite possibly could have been a different outcome.

Does it look like USC is going to have any impact Freshmen players that they are actively recruiting or have received verbals from?

Given it is USC the answer to that is very likely.

Assuming the linemen are not a factor there is a WR out of Georgia and TE Blake Ayles - plus other highly touted prospects that USC is in on at WR. (Forgot Shoemate a Cal kid 5* WR)

Man I was really hoping Ray their MLB would leave. He's going to put atleast 1 big stick on someone. Now if Animal stays we'll see the two best LB corps in the nation that night.

OSU with - Freeman-Animanl-Homan/Terry
USC with - Cushing-Ray-???

From what I saw in the AAA game, Shoemate isn't going to be an impact player for them next year.

I just hope that Turner, Hazelton, etc. won't get much better between now and then.

Its not he linebacking core just for Ohio State its the whole front seven depending if Gholston and James comes back and if they leave we go Wilson And Heyward on the line.

Gholston's already gone, but I'm hoping for a breakout season from Heyward and a comeback season for Wilson. People forget Wilson was considered the anchor on that line at the start of the season.

Don't count out JL coming back due in part to 1) Malcolm Jenkin's decision, 2) a ring.

If we get JL back for the championship game, along with Boone, we should have a great shot at USC. They have a new QB, and nobody jumps out at me on the receiving corps. They have great blocking schemes and a multitude of talent in the backfield, so I feel good about that matchup.
If we can play MAN TO MAN in the corners with the likes of Jenkins and others, we should be able to get some heat on Sanchez. How would you like one of your first starts at USC to be against this defense!??!?!

The Buckeyes running game should be nothing short of spectacular next season. Robiskie is a constant deep threat, and Beanie can pound the ball. Saine has great hands out of the backfield, and who better to lead block than Wells? I see a ton of potential for this offense, and a much more consistent ground attach than we've had for the last two seasons.

Take out any 2 big mistakes in the ncg, and its down to the wire. USC could play out the same, with the weight coming down on Boeckman's shoulders again. I would be concerned if I was a Trojan fan, however, you have a new QB, and the possibility of a new coach, and the Buckeyes are bringing back some serious talent.
