Game Thread Ohio State 3, Southern Cal 35 (Sept. 13)

I think I agree. That will come along though. He sure packs a punch.

I didn't go through the entire thread, but has anyone else checked out that months-old query about Brian Cushing and 'roids last year or so? Was pretty interesting. I think Kiper has him as his 3rd rated Junior linebacker. Not quite the physical specimen of Maualuga, but he's still a playmaker.

From all the titty-pictures, right?

Uncycling improperly will do that to you.

Whatever came of those rumors, anyway? He's a great linebacker.

Yeah, those are the pics...I have to admit, those changes in his physique make me curious...I saw images of him several months ago and he looked jacked again. Won the Rose Bowl MVP last year. He is a player for sure.

What do you guys think about the atmosphere of playing at the Coliseum? I've heard mixed reviews....that it's a tough place to play, but that's because it's merely a reflection of the quality of the team, less so the crowd influence. I've heard it can get loud still. I guess we will have to find out. I've watched many USC home games on television, but I never felt I could get an accurate gauge on the volume or tenacity of the crowd. Do they generally sell out? Or do they have empty seats for lame teams?

Atmosphere at the Coliseum is a blast. Tons of tradition. Stadium isn't the loudest becuase of the open end. Its a track stadium, not a football stadium. Tailgating is great. Campus is gourgus. Get there early or the night before becuase people mark off spots by about 5 am in the middle of campus. Parking is very expensive because it is downtown LA. I'm a student so I've never had to deal with it, but I hear the parking downtown and taking the bus is the best option otherwise you will be paying $40 to park at the least. It will be very loud for a night game, but from what I hear OSU is getting alot of tickets so it might be more subdued than normal.

And Autzen is the loudest stadium in the country, not the horseshoe. They set the record for the loudst noise ever at an American sporting event against SC last year.

Autzen Stadium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Autzen is known for its crowd noise. On October 27, 2007, during a 24-17 defeat of the USC Trojans, a then record crowd of 59,277 fans was recorded at 127.2 decibels.

SportingNews.com - Your expert source for NCAA Football stats, scores, standings, and blogs from NCAA Football columnists

IT'S LOUD HERE: The Register-Guard newspaper recorded a sound-level reading of 127.2 decibels -- louder than a jet plane at takeoff -- during Oregon's win over Southern California.
That's 8.4 decibels louder than the newspaper recorded two weeks ago during the Washington State game. And 1.2 decibels louder than the 126 decibels that 77,381 Clemson fans claimed to have reached two years ago against Miami.

The people who designed Autzen really know what they are doing. The acoustics are nasty.

Wow, a stadium crowd as loud as a jet plane for three hours? Is there any pumped in music like New Jersey Net's games?

My first live game was in 1990 OSU vs. USC. I was a freshman so I had field level seats at the bottom of the visitor's section. They were a pretty subdued crowd. Had the S-O-U-T-H-E-R-N (Pause) C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-A! chant, it took about ten mintes to complete.

Marinovich, the RoboQB / Future NFL Bust led them to the win against Robert Smith, Greg Fry, Alonzo Spellman and Co. I think Herbstreit was third string on the QB depth chart after Fry and Graham.

The game was called when a dangerout lightning storm hit with two or three minutes left with OSU down by around 21. Cooper got a lot of Flak for that.

The thing I remember most about that game were the USC cheerleaders. Possibly the best looking group of coeds ever assembled.

Ahh, memories.

SC has an incredible amount top Scouts150 players but they've played inconsistently recently. Stanford beat them and they will only accept 1400 SAT, 4.0 GPA students regardless of football talent. With all USCs fresh starters and OSU's experience I think we have a good shot.

Should be a fun game. I think I will watch it.

Here is a quick word of advice. I live in Southern California and know a lot about the modern USC atmosphere. If and only if TOSU is losing by a lot (which is highly unlikely) leave the Coliseum. The fans are utterly brutal and by far the worst of any school outside of TSUN. It gets ugly really fast with the fans at the Coliseum.

I am a USC student and would be ashamed if this were the case, but in talking to fans from other schools, they have never said anything like this. If its a UCLA game its a different story....no class in that rivarly, but USC fans respect OSU alot and I doubt anything like this will happen

Michigan fans are the worst? Huh? Wisconsin has that distinction in the Big Ten, and, in all honesty, based on what I've seen, Ohio State fans are probably second in terms of being "brutal", though we are similar to Penn State.

That being said, most of the attitude I've seen from Ohio State fans is pre-game around campus, not really during or after the game, regardless of outcome.

There will be lots of Buckeyes in SoCal. Should be a great atmosphere, and hopefully an epic game.

Football fans in Cali generally hate Ohio State, imo. Varying degrees, but definitely lots of hatred, similar to the hatred for the Patriots. So we have that going for us. Be prepared for Woody punching references.
