Actually, several national equestrian groups have lodged formal complaints with the university stating that it is disrespectful to horses to call our stadium the 'horseshoe'. I believe that's why some people have dropped the 'horse' in the slang name for the stadium. I think it would be most appropriate to just call it the 'equestrian footwear sporting complex'. That way, everyone is happy.

I used to refer to Yost Arena as "The Hole" or "The Barn". The "Hole" was short for "Sh**hole" because that's what the place was. "The Barn" because it's the only arena I have ever been in where the stands and seats are wooden.

I called the student section "3,000 screaming idiots" because that's what they are.

They all got offended by that, but screw it. Why would I care? They are UM idiots.

Yeah "The Shoe" has been the monarch of Columbus ever since I can remember ( 1954). I guess it is said with some reverence, per say like on the order of the 7 Ancient wonders of the world.

The unique design resembling a horseshoe was great to me. I use to play horseshoes as a kid and to throw a "Ringer" for 3 points was great to me and I was even excited about 2 pointer. And how many 3 pointers have brought us "Good Luck" in the shoe in our history of it. Let alone the number of 2 point games that gave us alot of luck also in that Stadium.

And yet today if you look closely at its new design. It still resembles the original look of a "Horseshoe", even though the end-zone has been upgraded considerably, it was left intact from the original design. And I think that was done intentionatley with that in mind to let it remain as it was intended - to be a sign of "Good Luck" So, go into any farmers barn in Ohio today and you will find a "Horseshoe" tacked up above some of the doors as a reflection of bringing good luck to that domain.

To me the fact of the matter is, the Horseshoe and "The Shoe" name is something that lives in Ohio State Tradition. The name came from the shape of the stadium i don't take it offensively, some people just like to run their mouths.

I would just like to tell Ft. Collins Buck that I love that pic of Eddie vs. ND.

Ofcourse calling the stadium the "shoe" isn't insulting. We call The Ohio State University "OSU" don't we. It's just a way to simplify a conversation.

It is in fact called Neyland Stadium down there at Ewe Tee. They actually do have a pretty nice looking campus down there, with the rolling hills/small mountians and all. It's pretty cool too that tailgaters can park a boat right next to the stadium and party all day long. I went on a campus visit there and looking down on the campus from the roof of the student union is a pretty cool sight.

Just for the record though, those people have a real Peyton Manning fetish down there. I visited there in the Spring of '98 - right after Manning had left Ewe Tee - and they had already named a street after him. Talk about a school that is desperate for some tradition!
