Ohio Stadium aka THE Horseshoe (Official Thread)

That's funny because I got a reservation for this weekend. My son and I went to the Ohio State - Texas game and we got there SUPER early. (I never know how early to leave or predict the traffic.) The stadium scoreboard had an ad for this. So I got home and looked into it, and made this our Christmas gift to a bunch of the family.
I'm hoping it's as awesome as I want it to be.

Ohio State Installing New Turf at Ohio Stadium

6a06737c219a2.jpg

Ohio State will install a new playing surface at Ohio Stadium, featuring Shaw Sports Turf's Forge Series™ system and installed by The Motz Group. The new field will continue to be sponsored by Safelite.

Shaw's Forge Series™ is a system-level product line designed to meet NFL standards, featuring Game ON® technology that integrates field markings directly into the turf.
Sports Field Turf Technology (GAME ON® by The Motz Group)
  • What it is: In sports venue construction, GAME ON is a proprietary manufacturing technology created by The Motz Group.
  • How it works: Instead of manually cutting and gluing lines, numbers, or logos into synthetic turf fields (which creates weak seams), this technology tufts logos, messaging, and hash marks directly into the turf carpet during fabrication.
  • Benefits: It reduces field seams by roughly 50% (from 12,000 linear feet to ~5,600 on a standard field), which significantly decreases maintenance, minimizes waste, and increases surface safety.
The updated turf will be in place for the 2026 football season.

The installation of the new turf reflects Ohio State's long-term approach to keeping Ohio Stadium both game-ready and visually aligned with the Buckeye brand as this now gives Ohio State staff the ability to assist in branding opportunities for themed games.

What a waste.

Ohio State football just fixed the biggest flaw no one was talking about

Ross Bjork believes that the installation of new turf will help ensure the safety of the Buckeyes moving forward.

"Ohio State football and Nike represent two of the most iconic brands in sports, and this partnership has delivered uniform enhancements that honor our championship traditions while equipping our student-athletes with cutting-edge performance technology. Additionally, the new surface at Ohio Stadium takes this vision further — providing a dynamic playing surface that provides latest advancements in performance and safety and meets NFL standards, and our staff will now be able to, utilize customizable end zones that amplify themed game atmospheres and elevate the experience for fans inside the stadium and watching nationwide."

Ohio State will have customizable end zones

This new turf gives the Buckeyes the opportunity to have customizable end zones, as well. That means that the endzone color will likely change, depending on which uniforms Ohio State is wearing. That means you could see a black endzone when they break out their black alternate uniforms.

Of course, the biggest issue that fans and players should be worried about is whether or not the turf is safe. Concussions have been a big issue over the last few years, as have non-contact injuries. Reducing those as much as possible is something that Ohio State should be the most interested in.

This is an underrated change that Ohio State is making heading into the season. It's a change that should have a meaningful mark on how the Buckeyes play at home this year. They should have better footing, which has been a clear issue over the last couple of years for receivers and running backs.

Yeah I saw how the endzones will be customizable that will just annoy the grass traditionalists more.
