High-profile transfer stirs debate
Jim Naveau - 02.22.2007
The transfer of Bath?s leading rusher on the football field last fall has made the subject of switching high schools a hot topic of conversation locally.
Todd Ruggley ? who led Bath in rushing each of the last two seasons ? plans to enroll at Lima Central Catholic and will play his senior season of football for the Thunderbirds. Ruggley gained 1,193 yards last fall and ran for 920 yards as a sophomore.
Signing off on allowing Ruggley and other students to transfer was among the reasons the Bath board of education voted on Tuesday night to hand two reprimands to superintendent Bill Lodermeier.
Ruggley will join an LCC football team that went 11-2 and reached the Division V regional championship game last season.
The Thunderbirds, 22-4 in two seasons under head coach Jerry Cooper, will have a 1,000-yard rusher returning in Chris O?Brien. Michael Corwin, who missed some time because of injury last season, will also be back.
Bath was 3-7 last season in coach Todd Clark?s first season after going 0-10 in 2005.
Ruggley was the second Bath student who plays sports to transfer to Lima Central Catholic in the last month. Junior Trace Cary made that decision in January.

Havent checked this forum for a while, but this it the alma matter...

Not sure why it is a big deal, towards the superintendent, even tho he is a douchebag, but if a kid wants to go to a private school, then what is wrong with that...

The same thing happened 2 yrs ago when the best player on the team got kicked off for drinking and then he signed papers for the kid to play at LCC.

Not sure how this specific transfer helps the kid either. I went to Allen East and played in the same conference that LCC is in now. The WBL, the conference Bath is in, is full of much bigger schools, and would probably do more for the kid towards getting recruited. If he were to go to Lima Senior I would understand, but I don't understand this kid moving down in competition.

P.S. I don't really like the trend, but do understand that most of them have to do with getting the kids more exposure to scouts, and recruiting services.

In terms of them moving to LCC is it just to play on a winning team...Bath is really down in terms of talent since the playoff year in 04...

correlating to when you left the program?

:wink2:

Year after  ...We got beat by Ross Homan and the Coldwater Cavaliers...I believe he had like 20+ tackles and a couple sacks...

We didnt make the playoffs my senior year, but did beat Kenton and Benny Mauk and the eventual state champs.
