High School Ohio High School Football General Discussion

sons team was out matched on Friday, sloppy tackling led to a bunch of big plays for the opponent. Offense looks like they will score a bunch of points this season, if the Oline can eliminate pre-snap penalties. Senior returning QB looks bigger and stronger, made some great plays - should be an exciting season, even starting in the hole 0-1

Sons team was overpowered Friday, they didn't play well at all. A few highlight plays, but overall too many mistakes. Saturday the JV team was the exact opposite, won 38-8 only because they stopped really trying to score. My son had a great game, was a menace on defense, make the RT his personal whipping boy to the point they started putting a TE on the edge to chip him - never quite got to the QB but spent a bunch of time in the backfield.

Truly mind boggling how far St. Ignatius has fallen after Chuck Kyle's retirement. In the last 2+ years they are 4-22, with this year sitting at 0-3.

Being from Cleveland, I don't know as much about Colerain but them also being 0-3 and being outscored so far 112-2 is pathetic no matter who you are up against.

Sons team had another great game on Friday, brings the varsity record to 2-2, solid run game and defense was in the backfield the whole game. JV also won big on Saturday, making them 3-1. My boy had 4 tackles on Saturday and was just bullied the RT all game! He is also a (undersized) center but he's a damn dog out there blocking (he's 5' 10", weighs 165lbs), he's played center since 4th grade because he was the only kid on the team that could snap in shotgun, so he learned to be a tough blocker. Now we see him going against kids 100-150lbs heavier each week and just uses great technique

Sons team won again this past week, moving them to 5-3 on the season, this week should be another win, setting up week 10 vs their rival. If they win, they 3 way split the conference title. They are pretty well assured a playoff birth (first time since 2022) - unlikely they'll make a deep run because their region is packed with talent. Son got some varsity play this past week, and SHOULD get a good bit of time this week.

JV played a combined game with the freshman (our school has Freshman, JV, and Varsity separate teams) - They won big as well, moving them to 6-2 on the season.

Going to be a very exciting playoffs year....lots of traditional powers are having down years, some by any standards and some by their standards. Teams like Hoban and Marion Local looking more beatable than they have previously. Some format changes (48 per division get in as opposed to 64) should make games more competitive from the get. Very glad to not have to see 16 out of 17 teams get into the playoffs out of a region...

My sons team will finish 7-3 or 6-4 with a HUGE rivalry game this week. They are looking like the 10 if they lose, maybe get up to 8 if they win. Their region is LOADED with good schools, should be some amazing games!

Too many teams getting in. Doesn't really make it more competitive when a team with 3 or 4 wins get in. Like most things its all about the money.

I agree it should go from 12 to 8 per region, BUT - this is still a rare example of going in the right direction as they cut games and will lose money due to that. The debacle that was teams deciding not to play Marion Local I'm sure was what spurred this, but either way I am glad it happened. Some teams with awful records will still get in, especially in D1 (looking at you 1-8 St. Ignatius....), but many teams with winning records will miss out.

In fact, Athens is 9-0 in D3 and is currently OUT of the playoffs as the #13 seed and don't even control their own destiny. Diabolical!

on paper that sounds horrible, but they have an extremely low schedule, in their 10 game schedule they only play 2 d3 schools and 1 d2 school, the rest are d4 and lower; the AD needs to do a better job at scheduling
