2026 OH DL Jamir Perez (Florida Verbal)

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound Perez doesn’t hold a composite ranking, but has 20 Division I offers. Other schools that have offered Perez include Cincinnati, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Syracuse and West Virginia.

Perez also offers the Buckeyes the ability to continue the famed Glenville pipeline, with Arvell Reese, Bryce West and Damarion Witten joining OSU in recent recruiting classes. OSU would like to pair Perez with his high school teammates Cincere Johnson (2026 linebacker) and D’Angelo White (2027 tight end) as well.

At this point, it would be surprising if Perez didn't eventually take an official visit to Columbus this summer. Following the offer, the Buckeyes appear to be in the driver's seat for the Glenville defensive tackle prospect.

I honestly can see this happen more and more. I don't think anyone can expect in state kids to be lay ups anymore. With the internet/social media, the world has become that much smaller and connected. And NIL has made the prestige from almost any school almost obsolete. I don't think anyone should be surprised by any OH kid leaving, just like we shouldn't act surprised when a GA or CA kid choose OSU. OSU landing Blaine Bradford is a MUCH bigger deal than losing Perez and Elbert Hill out of state. Recruiting in state now will be as difficult as recruiting out of state at this point. I'm not saying that losing those 2 doesn't sting, but the sting isn't the same as if we were in say 2010. I think OSU will always have top classes, but I predict most of those classes going forward will have more of a national feel. And in the end, we should want the top talent to be Buckeyes, especially if we're wanting OSU to be a dominant program. The best programs that dominated CFB for years did so by getting the best talent from everywhere, but those teams also didn't have to worry about the dreaded NIL and Portal which will also make many teams more national as well

Not disagreeing with anyone else, would like to say that DL (especially DT), is a position of need with tOSU. Knowing that, cannot imagine how LJsr wasn't all over this guy, unless of course, 1) 'assumed' that a Glenville guy was his, 2) maybe wasn't 'good enough' for him, or 3) ?. Guessing it's more of an NIL thing, as said above, but cannot put my arms around that 'it wasn't enough'. Does appear though that LJsr is the laggard in this recruiting cycle, but seem to recollect that this is his style. With my scarlet & gray glasses on, want to believe that as the recruiting season progresses, this young man will settle down, now that he's got a spot locked up, and figure out where his future lies. Heck, with NIL $, etc, maybe a better job for his dad is now legal? Seems to be the Wild West out there, with no holds barred. Not a great way to start this week. Go Bucks!

I think the main issue with LJsr(and honestly I'm sure many coaches around the country who are used to the "old" ways) is he wants to get HIS list of guys, and its a limited list, and he doesn't deviate from that list. Its honestly the same issue that Frye had, they pick a handful of names, focus on building relationships with those guys and no one else. The problem with that strategy in this era, is that those relationships only go so far when large sums of money are involved. LJsr does a great job of building relationships with recruits and their families(a number of guys who were OSU targets and signed elsewhere still rave about LJsr), but the kids now are getting contacted so much, that his methods are no longer feasible. You can't expect an hour long conversation once a week to be justifiable to land top talent anymore. Especially when most kids are getting calls almost every day and text every day. And this is where the generational divide comes in, or someone who has seen so much success they don't think they need to change. Kind of like the old grizzled salesman who was the top earner 10-20yrs, not understanding that he now can use email instead of daily cold calls.

It may just be me, but I just don't see how Perez was much of a priority in this class. I've seen his weight listed anywhere from 330 to 360 and that alone has to be a concern. I watched a fair amount of Glenville games and I can't say he ever consistently popped for me....he's more a guy that gets by on size alone. His pad level is typically pretty high and he got out leveraged by smaller guys often. He's a good guy to keep tabs on and see how he develops his senior year, but this isn't one that is going to cause any concern as far as a Glenville pipeline issue. The connection of Ginn Sr to Columbus is as strong as ever and Perez would have been a very fringe take on the DL, especially this time in the cycle.
