Somehow it would be cooler if he (Dale, Jr) was driving a black #3 car.

Richard Childress brings back iconic No. 3 car for 2014 Sprint Cup Series season

Team owner Richard Childress made it official Wednesday, announcing that grandson Austin Dillon will field the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for 2014.

Childress hasn’t fielded the No. 3 car on one of his Cup entries since the 2001 Daytona 500, the final race for seven-time Cup champion Dale Earnhardt.

NASCAR planning to reduce Cup horsepower

NASCAR is planning on making significant engine package changes in 2015 to extend the life of Sprint Cup power plants and reduce horsepower. And along with engine changes, there likely will be aerodynamic and tire changes for the Cup cars in 2015 as well. That's the word from NASCAR Vice President of Competition and Racing Development Robin Pemberton. In an exclusive interview with FOXSports.com Saturday morning at Auto Club Speedway, Pemberton said the sanctioning body has had four meetings so far with representatives from Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota and race teams about how to implement those changes. No consensus has been reached yet, according to Pemberton, but discussions are ongoing in advance of making the changes for next year. Although Pemberton declined to specify how many horsepower NASCAR is looking to cut, sources familiar with the discussions said the reduction would be in the neighborhood of 75 to 100 horsepower. Currently, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series engines make about 860-900 horsepower at most tracks.

Um...how are events like this treated by the authorities?
And that's a tough one too.

It's not all too often sports and law cross paths due to on-field events. Bertuzzi in the NHL? I mean, there's cheap shots all over that sport but it's in the name of the game that these events occur. Rarely does it constitute getting authorities outside the game involved. Does a guy that chop blocks someone and injures them get more than a 15-yard penalty, maybe an ejection? Certainly not arrested or sued, right?

Racing is a whole different thing too. These guys drive well above normal, legal, speed limits, how is that handled when something goes bad? A lot to think about and will be interesting, but thoughts to everyone involved. Tragic.

Saw the video. Getting out of your car, at night, on a dirt track, and he was wearing a darker suit, is not exactly a smart thing to do. There were even a couple other cars that had to drive around him. Maybe tony could have done more to avoid it (I'm not really a racing fan) but if you were to assign blame the overwhelming majority would be towards that kid.
