Official Cleveland Browns Draft Thread

?????

Why draft Troy Smith? I know he's a home-town boy, but do the Browns really need 4 inexperienced QB's (Frye, Anderson, Dorsey, Smith). Me must get a veteran QB instead. We need either a potential superstar (Adrain Peterson - if he goes pro) or a solid Nose Tackle in the 1st round. Wimbley can't do everything from the outside.....we need an anchor up the middle to stuff the run.

i think a lot of who they draft may depend on the offensive coordinator they hire and the offense being implemented. if they go with a west coast offense as has been rumored (greg knapp), i don't think adrian peterson would be a good fit.

Dorsey was brought in to be the backup, and even lost that job. He'll be gone before they break camp next year. Anderson is getting payed peanuts and wouldn't be a hit to the salary cap, if he doesn't fit into the mold. That would leave room for Troy, Charlie, and a veteran at the QB position. Just because we have young guys, doesn't mean that we actually have to keep them. We have some decent NTs on the team, if we can keep them healthy. Jackson and Davis should help solidify the middle. Thomas seems like the best bet for the first, and Troy would be a good get in the second. If he truly does fall to the third, then we would be insane to not take him then.

id just say the browns should choose players that WANT to play for them. smith and ginn have always been HUGE fans of the browns so they would be great additions under certain circumstances. WR is not a big need for the browns so i dunno about ginn but id say smith in the second round would be a great grab for the browns since he wants to play there. as far as first round......well who knows maybe houdini or somebody.

Fat Chuck W. called Crennel to let him know that A.J. Hawk's brother-in-law wanted to play for them. Does that count?

huh? im not even a browns fan....all im saying is with the ohio talent and die hard browns fans in the draft they will bring that exta "stuff" to the table in games and have th extra incentive to win. there is a little pride in the backing. plus the fanbase is mainly ohio natives so its not like they dont support them more so than usual and they know what they are capable of. suppose troy went to the browns and didnt do well? well i have a hard time seeing cleveland fans crucifying and knocking on the ohio state heisman winner and cleveland native in smith as opposed to say a brady quinn that played for notre dame.

I think you're being niave if you think a kid's hometown is even part of the discussion on Day 1 of the draft. I've seen some teams take a late round flyer or invite to camp to a local guy, but never a major factor in a high draft pick. That's something fans love to discuss, but its a non-starter.

you're right but i discuss it because i see no reason why they couldnt do it. if troy was taken in the second round by the brownies and did well he would be about the biggest posterboy for that team ever. sure they need a lot of players but from what i can see(again im not a browns fan) they seem alright at WR and TE. droughns seems to be a powerful beast but they need another back to take over or split time and obviously both lines need improvement. on the plus side of things the browns still are not worse than the raiders so they always have that going for them.
