Official 2006 Big Ten Tournament Discussion Thread

If tOSU makes it to the final, will the NCAA tournament committee wait to see who wins that game before naming that last #1 seed?

I wouldn't bet on it, in the past they haven't awarded tOSU because of their play in the Big 10 tourney, usually they have pretty much decided on the seeding prior to the tourney being completed. Like in I believe the last time we won the tourney and our seeding was horrible...

Right. That was the 2001-2002 (23-7, 14-5 B10) season where we ended up a 4 seed in friggin' New Mexico with Missouri.

I remember the Albuquerque thing, that's why I mentioned it. The committee may pre-determine that Memphis is a #1 if they win their tournament, and that tOSU is the #1 if Memphis loses in the Conf-USA tournament and tOSU makes the final of the Big 10 tourney.

yep, the NCAA really did us a favor that year......I really think that tOSU has a great chance to reach the finals of the Big Ten tournament.

Hoops Hospitality
Downtown Indianapolis nightspots and restaurants are adopting Big Ten schools throughout the tournaments to establish pre- and post-game gathering spots for Indianapolis visitors. The spots will provide places for fans to gear up for the game, hang out or celebrate a big win. Each of the 11 Big Ten teams has been paired with an establishment to celebrate Big Ten basketball.
University of Illinois - Ram Restaurant and Brewery - 140 South Illinois Street, (317) 955-9900
Indiana University - The Pub - 30 East Georgia Street, - (317) 822-9744
University of Iowa - Jillian's - 141 South Meridian Street, (317) 822-9300
University of Michigan - Hard Rock Café - 49 South Meridian Street, (317) 636-2550
Michigan State University - Slippery Noodle Inn - 372 South Meridian Street, (317) 613-6974
University of Minnesota - Buffalo Wild Wings - 15 East Maryland Street, (317) 503-3715
Northwestern University - Alcatraz - Circle Centre Mall Street Level, (317) 488-1230
Ohio State University - Champions - 350 West Maryland Street, (317) 405-6038
Penn State University (Men's Tournament) - Blu - 240 South Meridian Street, (317) 955-8585, (Women's Tournament) - The Pub - 30 East Georgia Street, (317) 822-9744
Purdue University - Rock Bottom - 10 West Washington Street, (317) 681-8180
University of Wisconsin - Champps - 49 West Maryland Street, (317) 951-0033

So OSU is gathering at a place called Champions? That's a good sign. Purdue at Rock Bottom is fitting. Wisconsin can't spell or they might be a threat. I won't say anything about MSU.

Quite an appropriate name for tOSU this year. I believe it's the bar at the Marriott.

Instead of 'Hard Rock', TSUN should be at 'Hard Knocks'.

tOSU must beat Purdue tomorrow, or Iowa gets the #1 seed in the Big 10 tourney due to the tiebreaker (head-to-head among the 3 teams, Iowa is 2-1, tOSU 1-1, Illinois 1-2).

Assuming tOSU gets the 1 seed and beats the #8 Penn State-#9 (currently Northwestern) winner, the second round would be against the #4 Wisconsin-#5 Indiana winner.

Iowa, Illinois, MSU and scUM would all be the other half of the bracket if tOSU beats Purdue to get the #1 seed.

And MSU drops to the ranks of the peasants with their first Thursday Big Ten tournament game. From gould68 on Bucknuts:

1 OSU
2 Iowa
3 Illinois
4 Wisky
5 IU
6 MSU
7 scUM
8 PSU
9 NW
10 Minny
11 Purdue

I don't like that opening round game, as PSU and NU are playing pretty good basketball right now. I'd cheer for IU against Wisky, because we match up much better w/ them. Tucker has been a real nuissance this year. After that, I like our chances against Illinois, as Dials always plays well against them.

the good news is, is that nobody has home court advantage. if we were to go back to norhtwestern i would be really scared. i think we would beat them by more, but you dont know forsure

Penn State beat NW'ern twice this year, so they may be the more likely opponent.
