Official 2006 Big Ten Tournament Discussion Thread

Let's say Iowa and Illinois win out, while OSU loses to Purdue. Then Iowa has a 2-1 record against the other 2, OSU has a 1-1 record, and Illinois has a 1-2 record. By that, Iowa gets the 1, OSU gets the 2, and Illinois gets the 3. If Illinois and Wisconsin win out, then I believe Illinois is 2-1 vs. the other two (I can't remember if they played Wisky once or twice), while OSU is 2-1, and Wisconsin is 1-2. I guess a further tie-break would have to be used, which I am not really sure about.

Either way, we won't have to worry about it if we just beat Purdue.

Don't hurt yourself. They'll beat Purcan't.

If they win the Big ten title in m-bball that will make history!
First college to every win conference titles in:
Football
M-bball & G-bball

that will be amazing!

We're the first in the Big Ten to do so. BYU and Utah have done it in the WAC/Mountain West.

Anyhow with the Big Ten tournament just around the corner, here are a few thoughts:

- Michigan State broke their losing streak, and I'd guess will lock up a 5 seed. They're the only team in the conference to have never played on the first day of the tourney (a bye every year).

- I can't decide who the hot team is on the lower end of the spectrum right now. PSU looked good, then went and got blown out against Iowa. Minnesota was heating up, then got beaten solidly by Wisky and Illinois. Northwestern looked good on Wednesday, but they just lost to PSU.

- I still think Illinois will win the tournament. As the probable 3-seed, they could actually have the easiest road. OSU will likely have to beat Northwestern, Wisky, and Illinois to win this thing-- teams that have given them problems. Illinois gets (probably) Michigan, Iowa, then OSU, which are better matchups for them.

- Further, I don't see the possibility for one of the bottom 4 to win this thing. It's likely that team will have to face either OSU or Illinois in the final, and I can't see them stealing that win.

The only team on that list who really gave us problems was NW. We lost on the road at Wisconsin but we handled Illinois very well at home. I think tOSU is odds on favorite to win the tourney.

I don't know if tOSU is better than even money to win it, but I really like the way the draw looks now, with Illinois, MSU, amd Iowa all on the other half of the bracket. On a neutral court I like the matchups against NW'ern and Wisconsin.

If tOSU makes it to the final, will the NCAA tournament committee wait to see who wins that game before naming that last #1 seed?
