I honestly don’t think he will ever really need to be an OC. I said a while back that Hartline reminded be a lot of Urban. I think he will be a position coach until he becomes a HC. Not sure if he even wants to do that. I think he could take that Associate HC title once LJ retires and he will get a significant pay increase.

Like LJ, maybe he’s satisfied being the absolute best at what he does. The reports (or possibly just speculation) I’ve seen is that he isn’t worried about money after his NFL career (and $550,000 in Columbus can go a long way, it’s not LA or NY), he loves Ohio State (obviously) and is tied to Central Ohio strongly through his wife and young kids. I’ve read that he is satisfied with where he is at the moment, and I believe that is through former teammates who would probably know.

Interesting parallel as Urban was a WR coach for 12 years before taking the BGSU HC job.

I think his progression should be to OC eventually I'd think unless he really doesn't want that. I suspect being the competitor that he is though he wants to be a head coach one day.

My hope would be he becomes OC in another 2-3 years, stays OC for 5 years or something and then takes over for coach Day at some point.

I fully agree. And I’m not trying to pocket watch the man, but he made over $18.5mil in the league. And he’s still earning over $500k at OSU, where he’s currently living money may not be the issue. And I could see him being content being an Asst HC like LJsr. But that’s my hope while wearing scarlet colored glasses. On the other side, I could see him being ultra competitive like Meyer and bolt after another 3-5yrs for a MAC(or G5)HC position. But this just shows that OSU doesn’t have to go the Bama hiring route and go after established former HCs, when they have done well with young up and comers and mixed them with older, established coaches.
