OBSERVATIONS FROM THE BARCALOUNGER

they weren't small when he overthrew Teddy for the INT either. I think that play prevented the coaches from calling any more, which is why Troy "struggled".

not sure i agree with that. i saw troy overthrow a lot of receivers. one play in particular that stands out in my mind was rory going across the right side without a penn state player within 10 yards of him and troy overthrew him on the run by about 5 yrds. granted he was on the run and took a pretty good shot from #20 and someone else shortly thereafter. but his passes seemed to be sailing a bit on him. though the drops certainly didn't help. gonzo had 1. rory had 2? there were atleast 5 overthrows/drops that would have gone for 1st downs easy.

either way, im glade troy got his int's out of the way and it didn't hurt us. i hate long streaks without turnovers.

Two huge differences between ND's game with PSU and ours relating to the final scores:

1) The weather and our field. ND played very fast the game against PSU and we had bad footing making us play a little slower than usual. ND's speed upset everything PSU was doing in that game. ND does not have our kind of speed either.

2) We play PSU every year. There are just some things you can not get from watching film on teams. We play every year. PSU knows our schemes and what JT likes to do. PSU could only get trends from ND which limits them on adjustments. When we play in the B10 teams who aren't as good as some of our out of conference foes will play better against us simply because they've been there before.

ND played in the rain against MSU. Penn State played in the rain. Michigan played in the rain. OSU did not play well in the rain until the final 9 minutes.

Give the devil his due. For whatever reasons OSU did not have the kind of game OSU anticipated against Penn State. For whatever reasons the running game and the short passing game were not there when needed.

It brings into question the rankings of all three teams. Is OSU not a mudder? (a quality you expect of teams that play in open stadiums in the midwest) Did PSU improve between games? Is ND better than they appeared in the Michigan game? Is Michigan way better than their ranking?

It will all shake out over the course of the next few weeks. My guess is that The Game will feature two undefeated teams, Notre Dame will win the Commander in Chief's Cup and end up in a BCS bowl despite having two losses, perhaps playing us again if, heaven forbid, we should lose The Game.

Troy has thrown some great deep balls... but he also has a tendency to throw it over the wrong shoulder or short in dry conditions. I can remember multiple bombs where the WR is drifting one way, but troy's throw ends up over the wrong shoulder.

I think it was just a bad throw, not a ball that slipped out of his hand.

The deep ball to Teddy was definitely a bad pass. The ball was a perfect spiral, so i highly doubt it slipped out of Troy's hand. If Troy throws that ball toward the middle of the field, it is at least a long completion and most likely a TD. Teddy had King beat.

There was one play keeps sticking in my head. Not sure when, but Mo Wells came into the game and split out wide. King stayed on Ginn (now in the slot) and Pozluszny went out the sideline to cover Wells. There was absolutley no safety help. I kept yelling for Wells to run a go route but the primary receiver must have been Ginn as Troy threw a weak comback route to him. Well basically ran a curl route. That is a situation when they should have took a shot of sending a pretty fast RB deep on a hobbled MLB

His best throw was also one that possibly no one else in college football this year could have made. Even on an off day, he still make the one perfect throw that changed the game. If you're Iowa and looking at film, you're saying "How in the ---- do you stop THAT?"

Personally, I think that Tressel loves a mid season game like this where you get a win, but you have a lot to work on that week and can fight complacency. My bet is that practice will be extremely focused, and that we'll see a much sharper looking offense in Iowa. We'd better.

If this is the "worst" game OSU plays this year, I can live with that. :)
