My thoughts on Saturday

1-The posters who commented on Tressel getting scared after the first pick are correct,IMO. If you do not keep sending him vertical, Ginn is an average B-10 WR at best. Tress decided to button things up and let the D win it.

2-For most of this year, Smith has been trying TOO hard to stay in the pocket and make plays w/ his arm,IMO-I think he is now mature enough as a QB to run a bit more when circumstances dictate. Unless Ginn outruns coverage on a deep ball, most of Smith's best plays come on the run ala Robiskie yesterday.

3-I'm surprised Tress didn't have bit more faith in our running game on the 3rd and shorts. Pittman is tough as nails on that outside sweep he often runs, lus Beanie is developing as a hammer.

4-Until the last two picks, Morelli wasn't doing anything really stupid. He wasn't making any big plays, but he wasn't making any either. The OSU D won this game, Morelli didn't lose it by himself.

5-PSU has a pretty good D, I don't know what got into them in the ND game, they are better than that.

Because most people around here figuerd out a long time ago, the transitive property just doesn't apply to football. Team A beats team B. Team B beats Team C so therefore team A has to be better than team C.

As an example I put forth 2005 and the ND faithful who were convinced that because they beat scUM by a wider margin than we did ND was better than OSU.

I think we all agree that dumbass notion lasted about as long as a box of doughnuts on Weis's desk.

I totally agree with you, I would like to see more plays called that have Smith rolling out of the pocket.

Another thing to think about concerning Smith's low rushing numbers can be the improvement of the offensive line from last year. A lot of the times last year Smith was forced to scramble or be rolled out because he was being pressured. The offensive line has done a good job of giving him time in the pocket this year so Smith does not have to scramble to buy time for receivers to get open.

Its hard to understand your patented sentence structure but are you saying if you would have won the Fiesta Bowl the "ABC stuff" would have been proven correct?

If thats what you intended, but failed, to communicate then I'll just remind you of the obvious. We don't need the "ABC stuff" to make a point on our team being better. We have that scoreboard and trophy case stuff.

If your trying to say that had PSU beaten ND we would have used the "ABC stuff" to assume we were better than ND then I point you to my first response. We don't need the fancy "ABC stuff" to know we are better than ND.

Countdown to all cap's, one line, quasi english response that attempts to avoid any specific point and take a thread even further off track...........

I was at my first game in the Shoe in years and enjoyed the game from C-Deck. In the first half, I turned to the guy next to me and said, "How did these guys lose that bad to Notre Dame?" While there are plenty of things to nit-pick about the offense and the game...all I could see was Penn State doing really well on defense, like you would traditionally expect. They were getting good penetration at the line, and the secondary was really moving out there. Troy made a few poor decisions (really forced a throw once on a third down out that you could see was NOT there before he went to throw the ball), but for the most part, Penn State's defense deserves credit for playing what has become an almost annual PSU-OSU slugfest. I don't question the play calling, the execution, or anything from the first half. Penn State just came to play.

And a question about the Shoe: Why does the visitors' side of the stadium have the flags of the other Big Ten teams....and a Big Ten flag....and one more flag....of a certain team.....located in South Bend!?

psu looked VERY vulnerable to the pass. we had wr's open all over the place. but we had a lot of dropped balls and a lot of poorly thrown passes. troy seems to struggle against psu. the play calling was got more conservative as the game went on. but i don't think it was caused by the picks or necessarily the weather. i think offensively we flat out didn't execute when given the opportunity so jt simply took the opportunities away. the only thing that stopped our offense was us.

if ginn wants to know why he isn't playing both offense and defense he needs to look at tape of the first pick. he completely gave up on the play when the ball wasn't that overthrown. over the last two games ive gotten the feeling that he hasn't been completely selling out on passes. im not going to say this is proof of that. but it certainly doesn't help his case much.

Yeah, doing comparative scores Michigan should be a 40 point favorite for The Game.

Maybe that's why you don't do comparitive scores.
