I Heart Boobs
(Sorry for being so long winded)

Went to all 6 games. Froze my ass off, but talk about a blast. Of course the 3 games I was really interested in was Steubenville, Steuby Central, and Coldwater (for Homan mainly).

Big Red was overpowering. Both teams seemed a bit tentative in the first half, not wanting to make the first mistake. 0-0 Halftime. Steuby comes out in the second half and really showed who the better team was. Desales hit hard, played well, but this was Steubenville's year and they were not gonna be denied. Way to go Big Red, glad to see em finally get one. Final, 28-7.

Steuby Central was not even in the same leage as St. John. In fact, I personally dont think St. John needs to be in D6.......I realize it goes by enrollment and such, but we may need to edit some rules. Their D was smothering. Central couldnt begin to move the ball. Still though, cant blame a team for being incredible. Congrats to Delphos. Final 28-0.

Coldwater.........wow. They are so disciplined, so well coached, so fast, and talk about kids who have a nose for the ball. Homan did not disappoint. I am a little concerned about his size, but his instincts and strength are incredible. I was really impressed because I am very familiar with Cardinal Mooney, and it is not often that you see them get dominated by a team. Mind you, Mooney was without their starting QB, but I really dont know how much it would matter. Contrats to the Cavs. They have great fans also, met alot of nice people. Final, 33-9

Now for the "other games"

Best game of the weekend was probably D2, Canfield and Toledo Central Catholic. Toledo was incredibly impressive. No mistakes. Very fast. They executed the most perfect hook and ladder that I have ever seen. Canfield, if they had the term "forward pass" in their vocabulary, they win the game. I recognized the type of team. They have a great defense, and pound the ball on offense. However, when they get behind, it is a problem, because they cannot throw the ball at all. That is what beat them. Central was much faster than they had seen all year, and trying to hold them under 20 points did not work. Another major factor in this game, was Canfield's star running back going down in the 2nd quarter, and that really killed them. Great game overall. Final, 31-29

The only game that I was actually kind of bored with was the D5 game. Patrick Henry had an incredible receiver, and a good QB. It was like Palmer to Chad Johnson all day long, and Cincinatti Hills didnt have an answer for that. They made a game of it in the second half, but just didnt have enough. Neither team could run the ball at all, and liked to run the spread. Kind of a strange game. Final, 42-30 Patrick Henry.

And finally, D1. Massilon being in the game made it very hard to get tickets. As we were preparing to stand in line to wait for some of the last 1800 tickets, we were approached by a scalper. I usually make it a point to not buy tickets from scalpers, but it was about 20 degrees and we were desperate, so what the hell, right? Well tickets cost $9 for each game. We get tickets from him for $17.50 a piece. They are on the 50 yard line, about 30 rows up. Wow, think I will look for scalpers from now on :) St. X was as advertised. Not the biggest team I have seen. In fact, Massilon was much bigger. Now this really proves the point "size doesnt matter". St. X was so fast on both sides of the ball, they never miss a tackle. Their QB throws a nice ball, but his strength is in his legs. Never seen a white kid run like that . He split the entire D on one play, and actually pulled away from most of them. Was run down by a corner at the 10 yard line. Then of course you have Darius Ashley at halfback. The kid can fly, and he just does not go down after 1, 2, or 3 hits. Massilon wouldnt quit, taking advantage of a couple mistakes. There were a couple times when we had stuck a fork in them, and they just kept coming back. Down 24-3 in the 3rd quarter, they score on a long pass play to cut it to 14. St. X drives down the field to the 19, looking as if they are going to punch it in for the exclamation point. A fumble pops up in the air, caught by a Massilon linebacker, and he runs it 78 yards for a TD. The lead is down to 7. Was almost hard to believe. Massilon had a hard time maintaining drives, and seemed like they would pick up 1 or 2 first downs, but then stall. St. X shut them down in the final minutes for the win. Great game. Final 24-17

I had a blast. It was like -2039292032 degrees outside, and I have never had so much fun. God I love Ohio football.

Well name me a couple that woulda been there, cause the only 2 I knew to watch was Homan and the QB from Mooney (who didnt play). Couple of defensive players from Massilon which I cant really say much about because they were playing against the Indianapolis Colts

That was 07 safety prospect Andrew Dailey

Any more detail on individual players?
Massillon JR RB/WR/S/CB Brian Gamble had a tough game defensively. He struggled to finish his tackles and had several guys bounce off of him and get lots of YAC (he missed tackles on 2 long TDs). X didn't throw much, so it was difficult to see his coverage skills. He performed pretty well on offense, especially once he got out in space (screens, etc). Showed good hands and seemed to be a tough runner, despite not getting many yards (X's D was very good).

St. X SO RB Darius Ashley was the MVP of the game. He showed great speed and was difficult to bring down on first contact. He finished with 153 yards on 27 carries (5.6 ypc) and (I think) 1 TD. He did make a critical mistake when he allowed Dailey to rip the ball away, but he showed great promise for a Sophomore on such a big stage.

As for Homan, I posted this in the Coldwater Cavaliers thread... "Ross played well as you can see by the stats (16 tackles, 71 rushing yards, TD, 20-some receiving yards). Perhaps I'm spoiled by our stellar (and huge) LBs, but I didn't think he looked too imposing physically. Very solid, but short and seemed smaller than I was expecting. He had a little bit of trouble shedding the blocks of Mooney's BIG O-line, but other than that he did well. Great speed and you could tell Mooney was trying to run away from him."
