In late September, Ohio State offered a highly touted safety in the 2026 class.
Safeties coach Matt Guerrieri extended an offer to four-star Nevada prospect Jett Washington, making him the ninth safety the Buckeyes have offered in the 2026 cycle.
“I think it was huge because that was a school I had visited in the spring of my freshman year and have been interested in since,” Washington told Eleven Warriors. “Now that they’ve expressed interest in me and offered me, it was huge for me. (Coach Guerrieri) said they’ve been watching me closely this year and they’ve liked what they see. They’re excited to build a relationship with me.”
Five games into his junior season, Washington has recorded 25 tackles, two interceptions, two pass deflections, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry for Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nevada) High School. In his sophomore year, Washington recorded 37 tackles and two interceptions defensively. Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Washington is considered the 65th-best prospect in the 2026 cycle.
“Probably just being around the ball and making plays on the ball,” Washington said of his best on-field attributes. “I think I can come down, tackle, play free and roam around, I think I can go down, cover and make plays all around the field with my versatility. I’ve really played free safety (for my high school) and a little bit of strong but I’d say I can play either one.”

Jett Washington making an official visit to OSU

Ohio State’s summer official visit schedule just got another visitor. Five-star 2026 safety Jett Washington confirmed Wednesday that he’ll visit Columbus this summer along with Oregon, Alabama and USC. He’ll be in Columbus on June 6.

The No. 4 safety in the 2026 cycle, Washington is the nephew of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. He picked up his offer from OSU last fall.

“I think it was huge because that was a school I had visited in the spring of my freshman year and have been interested in since,” Washington told Eleven Warriors last fall. “Now that they’ve expressed interest in me and offered me, it was huge for me. (Ohio State safeties coach Matt Guerrieri) said they’ve been watching me closely this year and they’ve liked what they see. They’re excited to build a relationship with me.”

OSU is likely running a bit behind the other schools with its recruitment of Washington thus far, but that could change depending on how the official visit goes this summer.

If he's got the Mamba's quickness, then Hartline might just snag him away from the D. Just a thought, but agree that Coach Mick will get him in the weight room, and put about 30-40 pounds of muscle on him, and could turn out to be either a LB or DE. (probably need about another 20 for DE). Anyway, anyone know how come there's so many 5* Safeties this year? With only about 33-36 5*s to hand around, seems like there are too many (?) at this point in the season. PS, the basketball team might be able to use this guy as well....

There's really no rhyme or reason why a class has a certain position that is deeper and better rated kids. Some years QBs dominate, sometimes DL or WR
