Notre Dame beat Stanford
Stanford beat USC
USC beat Notre Dame
so
Notre Dame can beat Notre Dame.
Like the French?

Glad to see you are getting rep for what I gave you in the living room.

Anyway...

Notre Dame vs. Pac 10: 2-1
Notre Dame vs. Big Ten: 0-4

Ohio State beat
Penn State who beat
Notre Dame who beat
Stanford who beat
USC

Rose Bowl is settled.

Not so fast my friend:

  • UCLA beat Stanford
  • Stanford beat USC
  • So obviously UCLA will beat USC
*and*

  • Arizona beat Oregon
  • Oregon beat ASU
  • So obviously, Arizona will beat ASU
Therefore: Ohio State would hypothetically face UCLA in the Rose Bowl (if they didn't have other plans)

  • Ohio State beat Purdue
  • Purdue beat Notre Dame
  • Notre Dame beat UCLA
NOW the Rose Bowl is settled.

Transitive analysis RULES (nothing)

Notre Dame goes 0-4 against the Big Ten (getting outscored 133-43) and goes 2-1 against the Pac 10, and yet the Pac 10 is a better conference than the Big 10. By the way, The Pac 10 played the Big Ten twice this season and got spanked both times (Ohio State 33, Washington 14 and Wisconsin 42, Washington State 21).

Putting aside the issue that ucla lost because their 4th string, walk-on QB turned the ball over 5 times, by my calculations (and ignoring the inconvenient UO-UM result) that is the Big Ten #1 team beating the Pac-10 #10 team and the Big Ten #4 team beating the Pac-10 #8 team.

I'm drunk, but where did I mention UCLA?

Or maybe ND won because they sacked the starting Qb and knocked him out of the game.
