Notre Dame 14, GEORGIA TECH 10 (final)

It was Davie who called him a winner...must be tough for him to talk with all Quinn's nut hair in his face. I swear Davie wants to be a woman so he can bear Quinn's children.

Of course all we're going to hear for the next week now is how "Tough and resiliant" Notre Dame was to "win in a hostile environment" with a "suddenly stout defense" that will "give any team in the country fits."

And ND people wonder why they are so despised?

Exactly. Doesn't make sense. And Samafekfdfdja gets to play pro baseball.
The distinction is that those two guys are getting paid for their play in those sports, and are not receiving money from endorsements. Jeremy Bloom would be free to take prize money from skiing events all he wanted. Endorsements pay you for your fame, and for dual-sport athletes, their fame can be generated through either one of the two sports. It's perfectly fair for somebody to get paid for their job playing baseball just like one would for a job flipping burgers. It would not be fair for them to take endorsements though. It's unfortunate for guys like Jeremy Bloom, who earned endorsement offers largely from his performance in his other, non-NCAA sanctioned sport. The rule is meant to keep guys like Samardzija from taking baseball endorsements that would have been earned largely on the fame he generated as a football player at Notre Dame. It's unfortunate that Bloom got caught up in that rule, but it's there for a reason.

Thank God I'm not a GT fan. I'm pissed and I was just looking for a good upset.

Their offensive players didn't lose the game (seldom used what is probably the most dangerous receiver - including TGII - in college football). Their defensive players didn't lose the game (held ND to 2 TDs). The refs didn't lose the game (although they sure didn't help).

Fuck their stupid ass coaches.

hey, at least we didn't see them going for it on 4th and 9 deep in their own end, or the horrible swinging gate play, a la Central Michigan...

So where do you draw the line? Is it because they're making money playing other sports, or because they're making lots of money doing it. If they got paid minimum wage to play baseball or box, would it be OK? Or do you think it should all be allowed, to hell with the can of worms and loopholes and recruiting inequities that are opened up by it?

no, i don't think it should be allowed in any case... it you're an amateur athlete, you're an amateur athlete... even if it's in another sport, if you're getting payed as an athlete for athletic events, you are, by definition, no longer an amateur...
