No, it won't. Ryan Field has a capacity of 47,130. It is rarely filled unless Ohio State comes to town, and that's only because half the fans (or more) are Ohio State fans. If Northwestern can't fill a 47k stadium, why move to a larger venue.
And when OSU does come to town and Ryan Field does sell out, it becomes very clear just how ill-prepared the stadium and its infrastructure are for a capacity crowd. I get tickets whenever we play at NW, and I'd jump twice as fast at the chance to see the game at a place that's actually meant to accomodate as many people as it can hold.
Wrigley Field would be a great one-time OSU-NW experience, and even if some seats don't have the best view for football, the same goes for many spots at Ryan Field.
Northwestern played Illinois at Wrigley field in November 2010, but days before the game the Big Ten announced only one end zone would be used due to safety concerns. On Tuesday, the Cubs said that won't be a problem moving forward.
"We would move the dugout top and that would allow us to put a 12 foot perimeter around the whole field which would satisfy the NCAA," Cubs president Crane Kenney said. "That's not an issue with enough time to work on it in advance and would be part of our renovation plan."
