Northwestern 21, TSUN 14 (Final)

Terrance Taylor suplexes NW's RB. I guess practicing against McGuffie has it's advantages.

Peterman catches a simple pass over the middle with 3 Michigan defenders 10 yards away, all of whom think someone else is going to stop him. He rumbles in for an easy 50 yard TD.

That TD might have been more embarrassing than the others. They left the middle of the endzone wide open. Stevie Brown yelling at Stewart after the play. Looked like Stewart's mistake.

Sheridan waiting around in no man's land at his own 30 on 3rd and long, and misses the defender crashing down on him (the way he was facing, not looking).

Fumble, NW misses the first recovery attempt, it bounces off a foot away from the second defender, and UM races to recover the fumble about 15 yards away from sheridan's initial fumble (but horizontally).

NW bobbles a catch, and Trent drops the low tip.

3rd and 9, Bacher puts the ball behind Warren for the first down. Warren got turned around a bit, if he played the ball he likely picks that off.

Bacher is late with his delivery, leaves Lane out to dry, and Trent makes him pay after a 4 yard gain. Peterman drops yet another Bacher pass... but UM lets them off the hook with 12 men on the field.

Announcer points out that was the first "pass tempo" play from NW, typically a large part of their offense. Almost made it to the 4th quarter before seeing any of it. No word on whether that's due to Bacher's rusty play, the weather, or what.

Ross Lane has a step on the outside (a tough but makeable pass), and Bacher throws the ball away.

Northwestern is stopped by UM again near the 40, but NW also continues the pattern of downing it inside the 10 (at the 4).

Threet has come in after Sheridan continues to be woeful, and Feagin little more than a direct snap runner.

Mesko's rugby punt nearly blocked, 20 yard punt + 26 yard roll.

Why do they insist on that dumbass rugby punt? Mesko is actually a pretty good punter.
why do they do a lot of things they do?

It plays nicely into OSU's strengths next week, pressuring the kick. No real need to keep the ball away from the Brians on the return.

Ross Lane continues to settle into holes in UM's D.

Northwestern bobbles another catch, and this time UM doesn't drop the INT. Donovan Warren called for stepping out of bounds when he may have stayed in and returned it for a TD. Blown dead very early in the return, so a replay would have only yielded 10-15 yards.

Threet in again, to engineer the running offense. Brown continues to find good running room. A second QB run from Threet. Still no passing plays.

Shaw stuffed on 3rd & short a half yard short. Threet picks up a first down on the sneak which NW didn't defend (albeit stopped right at the line).

Holding play moves them back, Brown gets it back to 2nd & 12. Threet throws a poor pass into coverage, but it bounces harmlessly off of the turf.

Next play he overthrows Massey in the endzone, Ohioan Jordan Mabin picks it off.

UM forces a 3rd & long, but Terrance Taylor gets a personal foul, late hit on Bacher. Instead of simply running into him, he reaches deep, explodes up into the top of the QB, and flattens him over the fallen defender. Looked like the grade school trick of shoving your "friend" backwards over your other friend, kneeling conspicuously behind him.

NW's 3rd down playcalling continues to be suspect, goes for a qb draw from 3rd & 6 with an injured QB. They come up a yard short. Credit to UM for making the stop though.

Punt comes up short, UM takes over at their 23.

Threet was 0-3 coming into the drive, kept the zone read, was bottled up wide and dumped it off for 0 yards to Mathews for his first completion.

He just added two more passes underneath to Mathews.

Threet is 2/6 for 6 yards, 0 TD, 1 int.

The underneath passing game is working well, so what does RR do? He gets cute and runs a double reverse which has 2 defenders waiting.

They go back to the underneath passing game, for 8 yards. Why stop?

Threet picks up yards on the QB draw, but takes a solid whack and is now on the ground. Looked like a solid shot to the thigh.

This offense continues to take it's toll on Threet. I'm not sure he's going to be effective the rest of today, with only 4 min left.

4th QB change.

1st down - Sheridan rolls out, finds an open WR 7 yards away, but only throws it 4 yards and on the ground. Across his body, but a high school level throw, difficulty-wise.
2nd down - Carlos Brown catches it underneath and scampers for 4 more yards and picks up 8 total.
3rd down - Sheridan indecisive, rolls out, and tries to force the ball to a WR with a DB draped over him (iffy pass, but also iffy coverage, possible interference).
4th down - QB draw off right end, and stays inbounds for another 5-10 yards. Tough run, and pays for it with a huge hit at the end.

1st down at the 31.
- Finds Odoms 5 yards downfield, who drops it, again.
2nd down - Carlos Brown trips on the zone read exchange. Looked like Sheridan's fault, kind of up in Brown's space on the exchange.
3rd & 13 - throws a curl route to mathews but the DB can break on the ball and break it up. Sheridan simply doesn't have the arm strength. That's a first down with Mallett or Henne.
4th & 13 - looks around, rolls out right again, shrinking the field, and it's broken up by two defenders, no real chance to catch it for UM.

NW ball - 2:19 left, all 3 TOs for UM.

Simmons breaks off a 7 yard run,

Just showed a view of the stadium with about 10 people visible, and most leaving. I'd be curious how many were there before that 4th down, since this game was in doubt until about a minute before that shot.
