North Dakota State at Minnesota

This is too funny

Minnesota incurred the wrath of the football gods when they got greedy and fired Glen Mason, and then compounded that mistake by going for a complete 180 in philosophy in hiring Tim Brewster. It was the same kind of shortsightedness that M*ch*g*n showed in hiring DickRod, but unlike M*ch*g*n they lack the juice to eventually recruit their way out of the hole they jumped in. Jerry Kill and anybody else that Minnesota could have realistically hired would be powerless against this. It's a feedback loop of shittiness. You can't really blame him for this mess, you can only blame him for being stupid enough to take the job in the first place.

Sort of like anyone who takes the Notre Dame job.

Well, to be fair:

2000: Ohio 23, Mason 17
2001: Toledo 38, Mason 7
2006: Mason 10, North Dakota State 9

So it's not like he didn't have his share of those clunkers either.

Is Kill OK or did this one give him another seizure?

He's actually had several more seizures since being released from the hospital, so that comment is definitely in poor taste.

Minn.Daily

Recurring seizures have plagued head football coach Jerry Kill since his release from the hospital Thursday.

"I've had about 20 of them in the last six damn days, and I'm still walking, still coaching," he said at his weekly press conference Tuesday.

Kill said he has no plans to change his coaching routine. "What the hell am I supposed to do? Stop? I mean, sit in the chair and wait for the next god-dang seizure to come along ? I can't control what I can't control - I'm going to go like hell until I go down and when I go down, and they can do whatever they do and I?m going to go again. That's who I am," he said.

Kill said the onus is on the medical staff to continue to monitor and control the situation. He said he will let doctors do their job and will continue to coach with the same nose-to-the-grindstone mentality that has made him successful to this point.

"I ain't changing. And if that ain't good enough? well, I've been doing it now for six years, and I've coached pretty damn good the last six years and I?ll coach pretty damn good for the next 15 years."

His well-documented medical history has garnered national attention since his Sept. 10 sideline collapse. Kill reiterated that he has a seizure disorder and said it stemmed from his battle with kidney cancer in 2005.

Sometimes, he said, the mixtures of medication just don't work the way the doctors expected. Part of the problem is dehydration, too.

Cont'd ...
I watched the 'Step Into My Office' with Kill on the BTN. It was taped before the season started, but they showed a clip of him being carted off the field after having a seizure during a home game while he was coaching at Southern Illinois. He's a very down-to-earth guy, and I hope his health stabilizes and that he can get Minnesota back to where they at least win all of their games against non-AQ schools.

Most of those 'Step Into My Office' episodes are worthwhile, by the way.

it makes you appreciate that much more how lucky we are to have Ohio State as our alma mater or favorite team. My wife is an Oregon State grad and I can't imagine having to cheer for suckiness like that. Ouch.

Glen Mason not only turned Minnesota around once he arrived, he reached a point of sustainability of relative success for that program. Think about how difficult that is.

Mason's success should be considered up there with Joe Tiller's and even Dantonio's.

Another program that got greedy was Indiana. They dumped Mallory and have struggled big time ever since.
