Non-Ebay Paypal Fraud Protection?

Does Paypal still protect me against fraudulent sellers on non-ebay payments? I'm going to buy a camera this week from a photography reselling board, and want to make sure I'm protected.

This has me concerned:

Yeah, they cover non-ebay payments as well. If you don't receive the item within a specific time period, you will just have to open an investigation, or you can escalate it immediately to a claim and they will start the process of asking the seller to provide proof of shipment, and if proof can not be provided you will get a refund. As long as the seller has money in his PayPal account.

I guess that doesn't dissuade my concerns then.

1) Expensive camera needs to work as described upon arrival, not just show up.
2) If he withdraws the funds upon receipt, how do I get my money back, if the camera is dead on arrival?

Anyone know if Mastercard offers any kind of fraud protection for something like this?

Yeah, PayPal isn't the best, actually I fucking hate it. For Sellers, it's god awful, for buyers it's great. If the item arrives broken or not as described you would have to prove that it was described a certain way. If you have proof, or it arrives broken, you should be able to get your money back. Is this an actual web site or just some shmuck that has a camera for sale and will take PayPal payments?

It's a seller, but since posting this question, he referred me to two sets of positive feedback (tied to his email), one of which was for another camera sale.

I have a description in the emails we have exchanged, and will include that in the description of my payment.

He's also including his business card, home telephone number and other means of contact as reassurance.

If i were you, just to be on the safe side, pay with a Credit card through Paypal. that way if something goes wrong and paypal doesnt cover you, you can file a fraudulent charge with your credit card company.

I personally have never had anything bad happen to me with deals over the internet, but i have heard about alot of bad ones from different message boards and this is the best way to protect your money.
