Non-CFP Bowl Games Discussion Thread

Watched Toledo beat Pitt.. Was pretty entertaining.. but what raised my eyebrows was how often they cited the age of some of the players...
Dang, some of these guys are filing for Medicare after the bowl.. How do you get 8 years of eligibility?

Late to the party, but did we just witness the worst coaching decision of all time by Narduzzi? 3rd and goal from one in 2OT. TD wins it. Have been rushing with success all game. Dials up a TE to DT trick play pass. Which could have worked, but unsurprisingly did not because both passer and receiver were doing something outside of their normal role.

Ok that is bad enough. He then says 'hold my beer' and makes the most objectively stupid call of all time. He kicks the FG on 4th and goal from the one to tie and go into 3OT. In other words, he passed up the opportunity for one play from the ONE to win the game outright for........checks notes............double checks notes............the opportunity for one play from the THREE while ALSO having to stop Toledo from scoring on their attempt to win it.

I have seen plenty of cowardly coaching decisions: surrender punts, settling for FGs when the math says going for it is the better play, etc. Hell Narduzzi himself has made these cowardly plays before - kicking a FG versus Penn State several years back from inside the three to cut the lead from 7 to 4 (leaving Pitt still in need of a TD for anyone as mathematically challenged as Pat apparently is) inside of five minutes to go in the game. But this one has to take the cake as far bad decisions.

That is remarkable. Did anyone (media) cover that? With the new OT rules I wonder how often that scenario has ever happened - 4th and goal from 1 in 2nd OT before it goes to the 2-Pt Shootout.

Pat needs you in the booth.

Can someone explain why two top-4 teams* are playing in the Alamo Bowl tomorrow night?

* two top-4 Big XII teams.
Good question. It used to be Big-10 vs Big-12. Not sure when/why that changed

Edit - Looked it up and I guess the Big-10 tie-in stopped way back in 2010. I think since it switched to the Pac-12, they accept legacy Pac-12 members; in this case it's Colorado. Correct me if I'm wrong

I had to re-read this three or four times to get what you were talking about. But once you see it, you can un-see it. With the new overtime rules, he's basically exchanging a 4th and goal from the 1 with a 4th and goal from the three AND having to come up with a stop on D, to win. It's like taking a 2 yard penalty in purpose.

Funny concept. With the old rules, you always kick the FG to get to the next OT. This is definitely something Dan Lanning would not fuck up. Ryan Day/James Franklin...
