  • As the regular season ends there are 12 teams with 10+ wins and 10 teams with 10+ losses.

Only Carolina made the playoffs with fewer than 10 wins. The Eagles were the only team with 10 wins to miss the playoffs.

There are some horrible, horrible franchises right now.

Schedule worked out to where the top teams got to beat up on the dregs, too- AFC North played AFC and NFC South, helped propel 3 teams to get in from that division. I think I saw it is back-to-back years where the division that drew the AFC South in the schedule rotation got 3 teams into the playoff.

What about this is so out of the ordinary?

    Year.. 10W / 10L
    2013: 11 / 9
    2012: 13 / 10
    2011: 9 / 10
    2010: 13 / 13
    2009: 10 / 9
    2008: 10 / 9
    2007: 11 / 8
    2006: 8 / 9
    2005: 13 / 14
    2004: 9 / 12
    Avg: 10.7 / 10.3

Also, every 2014 team with 10+ losses beat at least one team with a winning record (except for Chicago whose best win was 8-8 SF). And c'mon, my Buffalo Bills finished with 9 wins! That hadn't happened in a decade.

The better measure of parity in my IMO is how many teams go from missing the playoffs to making them (and vice versa) : this year that group includes Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Dallas, Detroit and Arizona. 5 new teams in a 12-team playoff field is a pretty decent swing from one year to the next.
