I've been waiting for confirmation of the "2nd link", but alas, none came. So we're going to just guess.

That won't start working until (at least) BP disappears from www.buckeyeplanet.com
Thanks Clarity I hope you don't think I was calling you out or anything. You are awesome. I was just mentioning about the 2nd link to see if anyone had info. Thanks for the link.

God that sounds really sad doesn't it? :(

your post sounds a bit frightening... especially the "until BP disappears from www.buckeyeplanet.com. Do I need to start crafting my goodbye PMs? Does BP run the risk of imploding?

As for Shoe.. I am MOST DEFINITELY NOT BKB and I have seen her.. love the new shoes.... :wink2:

No problem at all.

Actually, I'm hoping the downtime might not happen at all, or at least that most of you won't even notice it. We'll see how it goes, I honestly have no idea whatsoever what to expect. The registrar has already had the DNS records updated, and I'll make the machine-side changes tomorrow once I notice BP isn't loading by the domain name. The bit of strangeness there being that the way things propagate across the net, the domain may be down for some before others.

I think our host is making me do this just because they know I hate stuff like this with a passion.

Always!

Really, what it comes down to is that when you type buckeyeplanet.com into a browser, some magical dangerous entity on the net (I call him "Edith") tells your browser to go look at a certain numeric IP address. That used to be 140.99.uh.morenumbersIforgetnow. I've now asked Edith to instead point to 69.16.139.250. But Edith is somewhat slow and unpredictable. He could decide to listen to my request 20 minutes, or 20 hours from now, there's just no telling.

At the moment, Edith is still telling people to go to 140.99.other.numbers. Which is all well and good, because our server is sitting there screaming "hey! I'm 140.99.more.stuff, come talk to me for BP". The downtime will come when Edith recognizes the new address I've given her. Then she's sending everyone there, but our server still thinks it's the old address. That's when I'll have to change it over (and I have a few different sets of directions regarding how to accomplish that -- god help all of us), and hopefully then Edith, our machine, and your browsers, will all be singing off of the same sheet of music.

Is there a time frame when the shutdown might occur? For example between 2am-11am etc.

You can't close the site tomorrow. I need to know if those flying monkeys come out of Trump's butt or not. The suspense is killing me!!! I don't think that I will be able to wait until Friday to find out.

Any time between this very minute, and 24 hours from now.

No sarcasm, that's what the registrar told me when I submitted the change.

It could last just moments for some people when it happens, or hours -- or, if I choose the wrong path on the machine end, longer.
