Night practice (Now Thursday, 8-23 at 8 pm) Gates open at 5

Went to the autograph session earlier. Very well organized compared to last year. The field was nice...walking experiencing the field was a nice experience for me...first timer. Had to leave early for other obligations, but overall a good experience for the fan base. Can't wait for Sept 1.

Dane

The "Great Dane" has been used in the Toledo newpapers a lot. Tom Cole from BCSN has called him "the Spiderman". That one never really caught on. I think he's simply "Dane", we'll know his name well enough after this season.

ONN Coverage on cable

Does anyone know if this is gonna be replayed on ONN again?

ONN, Ohio News Now - Viewer Services - Find ONN On Your Cable System

If you do not see your cable provider listed here, give them a call and request ONN.
These two cable providers do not carry ONN:
Massillon Cable TV, Inc.
814 Cable Court NW
PO Box 1000
Massillon, OH 44647
330-833-4134

Buckeye Cable System
5566 Southwyck Blvd.
Toledo, OH 43614
419-724-9802
800-866-3260

It figures, Toledo is not listed here

Just checked on my TV and what I recorded on ONN from 11-midnight was definetly not the practice. It has Primetime (which was actually a pleasant surprise to watch high school previews) and some Nascar show. Is it supposed to be at 11 tomorrow night or something?

OSU autograph session quieter this year

Twenty-eight thousand mobbed the Bucks in '06; Thursday's event half full.

COLUMBUS ? Star power apparently matters ? even for Ohio State fans.
Embarking on a new era without Troy Smith, Ted Ginn Jr. and other standouts, the Buckeyes drew a relatively meager crowd to an open practice and autograph session Thursday night.

Open night practice at Ohio State draws 5,500 fans

8/23/2007, 9:26 p.m. EDT The Associated Press
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? About 5,500 fans endured oppressive heat Thursday night to watch No. 11 Ohio State run drills, the second consecutive year that the Buckeyes have held an open night practice.
Players signed autographs before running through a two-hour practice at Ohio Stadium. About 28,000 fans showed up last year, when the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 heading into the season.

I made it to the autograph portion of the evening too, and though only a fraction of the fans showed up compared to last year (which obviously made a big difference) I've got to agree that everything was incredibly well organized and managed. Even had another 4500 fans been in there, I believe the formula they had in place would have handled everyone with the same success.

The Athletic Dept. / Event Management Staff did a fantastic job addressing the problems of last year. Being on the new field helped. Lines were well defined rather than one running into the next, people standing on top of each other, stuffed in the concours of the Shoe. Plenty of Red Coates and Yellow Shirts were managing each line so there was no cutting that I saw (inside or outside of the stadium). They let us in the stadium 50 minutes before the players arrived and handed out table lists, with where each player would be sitting so you could line up for whoever you wanted most. Tables were numbered and sectioned off with gates so that there could be little chance of 'slidding' into the front of the next line.

I'd imagine anyone who picked their favorite player (or Coach T) got that autograph, then probably even had time to jump in a few of the smaller lines. Unless you were hoping to get Tressel, Beanie and Little Animal, I'll bet everyone there walked away with just about exactly who they came to see. The papers say an hour, but I believe they even stayed an extra 15 minutes which allowed me to grab another half dozen or so autographs from the Freshmen (and that's jumping in 5 separate lines or more).

It was hot, but a fantastic time compared to last year's frustrations for me and my son.

Mega Kudos to the Team, University and Event Management Staff for what I believe was a great success last night...fun for all I spoke with.
