Niagara at #17 Ohio State, November 12 @ 7PM EST BTN+

When 4 guys on a side can hit the 3,Defense in college baskeball is very hard especially vs a disciplined team. The pass lanes and drive lanes are always open and if you jump it, the shot is open somewhere on the perimeter. I'd like to see us dog the other team a bit better but their big man started hitting 3's with Zed on him. Not much else you can do unless EJ is playing the 5.
Got the W but still a lot to work on for awhile.

I’ve never been totally sold on Sueing and yet he clearly needs to be the #2 scorer on this team in the 15-20 point range if this team will do much.

I’m just not seeing where else the points will come from against a good team.

Young and Key should be good for double digits; maybe Ahrens, Branham, or Johnson can take turns getting hot for another double digit scorer.

LATE SURGE FROM JAMARI WHEELER A PROMISING SIGN FOR OHIO STATE GUARD PLAY IN NIAGARA WIN

Holtmann has described his backcourt as a “work in progress” on more than one occasion early in the season, and it appeared to be just that on Friday. But for Wheeler in particular, the end of the Niagara game gave the Penn State transfer some confidence to build on moving forward.

“It was great to see, because our team needs that from him,” Holtmann said after the game. “He may not be a guy that’s gonna create – he can create some – but what he can do is shoot the ball. And I loved seeing that, I was really happy for him, because we’ve been on him about doing that.”

Questions about the Buckeye backcourt remain after Friday night’s contest, to be sure. For Holtmann, though, improvement was satisfactory from Wheeler and company in the second game of the season.

“I thought our guys had some really good responses and some really good moments, and I was proud of some of the growth with some of those guys,” Holtmann said. “I thought our backcourt – with Jamari and Meechie (Johnson) and Malaki – had some really good moments.”

"They've got some guards that are a handful that we struggled to contain, particularly early as they got going," said OSU coach Chris Holtmann. "But I thought our guys had some good responses and some really good moments. I was proud of some of the growth with some of those guys.

"I thought our backcourt with Jamari (Wheeler), Meechie (Johnson) and Malachi (Branham) had some really good moments as well. I thought we took a step forward with our guard play. We also had Justice (Sueing) coming back. This was a hard fought win. Give Niagara a lot of credit for that."

Forward E.J. Liddell led the Buckeyes (2-0) with a career-high 29 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. He was 9 of 15 from the floor (3 of 6 on threes) and 8 of 12 at the foul line.

"He has been huge for us offensively and defensively," senior forward Kyle Young said of Liddell. "You can see what he can do at the offensive end. I know he saved me on defense when my guy got by me."
