Latvia closes for surprise holiday after hockey upset of U.S.

Latvians woke up to go to work Monday morning, only to find they didn't have to. Their parliament had met at midnight to declare a holiday after the national ice hockey team chalked up its best result at the world championship.

Latvia, where hockey is the national sport, was co-hosting the men's championship with Finland, and the country's 4-3 overtime victory over the United States for the bronze medal was greeted with wild jubilation.

Their parliament had met at midnight to declare a holiday

Dallas looks sharp for 2 games without that bum Jamie Benn anchoring them, he comes back and they get dry-docked. That guy sucks.
So, I went out for some lunch/drink yesterday (coming down off my Indy 500 weekend bender). Swear to god, I saw a guy at the bar wearing a Jamie Benn shirt/jersey…and an ankle monitor. It was perfect.

They were No. 8 seeds. They barely got into the playoffs after up-and-down regular seasons. They had to face the No. 1 overall seeds in Round 1 of the postseason. They had to win Game 7s in Boston just to keep their seasons alive. They are Eastern Conference champions. They are each four wins from a championship.
