Seems like the league is pissed that the PA doesn't want a 5-year limit on contracts.

Basically they still want the players to take less of a percentage while making contract concessions. I seriously don't understand how anyone can shit on the players over this. Offering less money and less job security is not negotiating, especially when the money problems and dumbshit contracts are the league's own doing.

When the NHL agreed to increase its make-whole offer of deferred payments from $211 million to $300 million it was part of a proposed package that required the union to agree on three nonnegotiable points. Instead, the players' association accepted the raise in funds, but then made counter proposals on the issues the league stated had no wiggle room.
I've negotiated 8 collective bargaining agreements. The union has made a counter proposal like that every time, yet we always reach an agreement. It's no reason to walk away from the table. You just counter their counter and reiterate your point. They're simply testing the waters to see how serious you are about your position.

These idiots act like they've never negotiated a CBA before. :shake:

In a way, it's good that hockey isn't going because I don't have to put Mike and Tony on the ignore list.

One day, we will be able to have hockey conversations like adults on BP!

That being said, :(. I JUST WANT TO WATCH FUCKING HOCKEY!

Aaron Portzline had an excellent point on the radio last night regarding the impact of this lockout on the Blue Jackets.

Allows John Davidson to get his feet wet and really take his time evaluating the state of the organization.

Allows them to be extremely patient with their prospects and not rush them up to the league. All of their guys are playing and getting the experience that they need.

The whole season gets scrapped so they use the same draft lottery they used last season which gives the CBJ the best chance at Nathan McKinnon.

That said, the NHL 'pie' that these guys are arguing about is getting smaller by the day. They can't really expect the revenue to be what it was after they piss away another season.

NHL, union have tentative agreement

A tentative agreement has been reached between the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr stood side by side in the early hours of Sunday morning to announce there was a framework in place for a new collective bargaining agreement.
Although the deal still requires language clarification, legal fine-tuning and ratification from both sides, a verbal agreement has been reached on the major points.
.
.
.
Should the deal become official, the league will play a truncated season similar to 1994-95, when a lockout resulted in a 48-game schedule.
