It appears controversial union leader and NFL HOFer Gene Upshaw has passed away:

This will be interesting to see A) What the reactions of the fractions of the NFLPA are, and B) How the succession will work, and where that will take the NFL.

I used to work at the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Gene was one of the nicer guys I met during my time there. Sad.

yeah that was my 1st thought as well. I wonder what this means for the cba when it expires. which i believe is after the 09 season.

Could get ugly depending on who the union elects. Upshaw and the commish ( both tags and goodall) have always had a pretty good relationship. If the Union goes with someone who really wants to push some of the more radical players wants it could get ugly.
