im here. still in shock. i just kept thinking "theres no way they won't overturn this....right?" McCarthy had much more restraint than I would've thats for certain.

Jerry Markbreit (only ref to officiate 4 SBs and like 8 bazillion championship games) says it best, I think:

Markbreit cited the arrogance of the NFL in the contentious negotiations with the officials.

"Obviously they don't value the officiating expertise that the National Football League referees association brings to the table," he said. "These are men who have worked their whole adult life to get there. It took me 20 years to get into the National Football League, working every level of football. These guys have had the rule book for three months. How could they possibly know what's going on? It's just a crime, honestly. It's heart-breaking really to see it."

Regular refs didn't mark a punt downed at the 4 at the 12. Regular refs know when there's a 10 second runoff and when there isn't. Regular refs know when calls are reviewable and when they aren't. Regular refs know what possession is and what it isn't. Forget PI and holding. Take the non-subjective calls, and they are [censored]ing those up royally as well. That is the difference.

As I stated before, fix replay and you can fix a lot of these issues.

The NFL has really blown their own foot off with an ICBM this time. Regardless of how you feel about labor issues, the NFL was betting that they could show that basically "anyone can be an NFL ref". As we have seen, it has become obvious that this is absolutely not the case, and that the NFL refs do indeed have specific skills that even other refs don't have.

Only if you want a 9+ hour football game. The refs have to get most of the calls right for the game to have any temporal integrity whatsoever. If they have to go to replay fore the most basic shit every single time, no game would ever end.

Jerry sounds like a guy partial to the NFLRA, and not surprisingly so. The suggestion is they should get whatever they want, otherwise it's an insult.

Nothing particularly earth-shattering or elightening there. It sounds like typical rhetoric used during a labor dispute.

Hilarious.
Carroll being Carroll I guess. I'm not surprised.

Replay doesn't need to take that long.. You can't tell me that there wasn't visual evidence to support the interception last night. There wouldn't be this level of ire if replay was corrected on major calls like that.

I understand that 10 million dollars changed hands last night relative to the call. Hello NFL owners Las Vegas would like a word with you....

I think the reaction to the replacements has been over the top and the perception of the "skills" of the NFL refs is being greatly exaggerated in their absence. People bitched and moaned about them every week.

Suddenly, bitching and moaning about officials is unprecedented and last night was the first time a blown call decided a game. Please, let's not pretend either is the case.

The NFL had a great chance today to maintain a sense of integtrity when they could've overturned the Seattle "victory", but instead tucked their tails between their legs and said there wasn't indisputible evidence to verturn the review booth decision.
