2016 NFL mock draft: Ohio State taking over

Last year’s way-too-early 2015 mock that came out immediately after the draft was dubbed the Year of the Seminoles. If we are to affix a team to the 2016 NFL Draft, it’s the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Leading the way is shoulder shrugging defensive end Joey Bosa. Before we go any further, lets kill the comparison between Bosa and JJ Watt. Bosa has a chance to be great. No one will ever compare to Watt. But the aggressive and powerful Bosa is one of four Buckeyes in the top 12 picks.

Also among the Buckeyes listed is Cardale Jones. This is obviously a major projection considering that Jones has only started a few games in college and may not even be Ohio State’s starter this season. If he’s not starting, don’t expect to see him this high in the draft.

Cont'd ...

EDIT: Bosa (1), Jones (6), Elliot (11), Decker (12).

Bosa is def top 5 but the firstoverall is still unknown
All of those picks are a little too high. I could see Decker going higher, and Bosa being in the top 5 like you said. RBs aren't cherished as much for a team to take one at 11, no matter how talented Elliott is. I could see him towards the end of the 1st round, and Jones is an absolute question mark.

Gurley was just taken top 10 post torn ACL.

Yes, and that was the exception, the last time a RB was taken that was Trent Richardson... Teams aren't nearly as willing to spend that kind of money on RBs, when they can always find another, and picks that high haven't come close to earning their worth. DEs, OTs, QBs, DBs usually warrant draft picks that high

Gurley was not "the" exception, he was "an" exception. There will almost certainly be other exceptions to the supposed rule that NFL teams no longer expend high draft picks on running backs. When scouts believe they have identified an exceptional talent, they will make an exception.

And there has been 3yrs since the NFL has"an exception" at RB. Our DE and OT will be more coveted IMO. And Gurleys success will be linked to whether a team decides to draft a RB that high next year As well.

No offense but what the hell do you know about the NFL draft to make this proclamation?

EDIT: Bosa (1), Jones (6), Elliot (11), Decker (12).

Bosa: I can see him being the first or second DL being taken, depending on the needs of the team first to select a DL.
Jones: If he starts and has a great season, he'll likely be the first QB taken...if he leads us to a 15-0 national title, he'll be the #1 overall pick, whether or not the team with the #1 pick needs a QB.
Elliot: A 2,000-yard season and B1G title will likely have him as the first RB taken...a 15-0 national title guarantees it.
Decker: I just don't see him as the first or second OL being taken, but I'd really love to be wrong on that.

I think the Decker slotting surprised me most. I've seen three or four "way too early mock drafts" already and the two constants are that Bosa is the overall #1 pick, and Cardale is a Top 10 pick and picked by the Cleveland Browns in all of them. This was the only mock-32 with Decker listed. I've also seen Bell listed as a first rounder in one and Lee in another. If you take all of these early mocks together there are at least six players on this team with potential first round talent, though Bosa leads the way and it appears unanimous.

Yeah, I'd love to see Joey go #1 overall, but it seemed that his production (stats-wise) dropped off a bit at the end of the season due to offenses planning more for him and running away from him, and that drop-off may lead teams to falsely believe his ability has declined when it actually hasn't. In fact, his production in both sacks and tackles-for-loss where about double what they were in his freshman year...

Joey would have to shrink 6 inches and record zero sacks to not be a top 5 pick overall imo. Whoever needs a DL will take him first and even if they do not, they still might (ala Clowney to the Texans). Decker has a decent shot to be top 15 imo, there just needs to be a high demand for the position and he needs to have a solid season. The size and talent is there to me.
