there is talk about him coming in and running the team by committee...so he wouldn't necessarily be running things but he would have a major say in what happens...also Ralph Wilson really likes him (which makes sense bc he won a few AFC championships)so we will see how this turns out...i have also heard that MM will be fired so who knows...but i find that very doubtful

I would think Levy would come in as President or something and sort of mentor a younger GM... It would be hard to keep Mularkey around, since a new GM would have to want the same type of players he does, and because there are a handful of experienced coaches available to replace him.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Shortly after being introduced as the Buffalo Bills' general manager, Marv Levy decided to come clean about something that happened the last time he interviewed for a job with the team.
Levy acknowledged that he fudged on his age when landing the Bills' head-coaching position some 20 years ago.
"Mr. Wilson maybe doesn't know this, but way back when I was first hired in 1986, I was 61 years of age," Levy said Thursday, referring to Bills owner Ralph Wilson. "It sounded too old, so I lied and said I was 58."
The Hall of Fame coach had nothing to hide upon his return to Buffalo where he enjoyed his greatest success in leading the Jim Kelly-led Bills to an unprecedented four straight Super Bowl appearances in the 1990s.
Referring to himself as "an 80-year-old rookie," Levy eagerly accepted the challenge of resurrecting his beloved team that's coming off a 5-11 season and missed the playoffs for the sixth straight year.
"My enthusiasm is unbounded," said Levy, who becomes the NFL's oldest front office executive.

"They say two things happen when you get older. One is you begin to forget things," Levy said, before pausing. "And I can't remember what the other one is right now."
Later, when asked if he believed he had the physical stamina to do the job, Levy put his hand to his ear and said with a smile: "Would you repeat that question?"
But don't let his age fool you.
"The age factor means nothing to me," said Levy, noting he runs 3 miles five times a week. "I'm old enough to know my limitations and I'm young enough to exceed them."
That, however, didn't prevent the 87-year-old Wilson from getting into the act, introducing Levy by saying: "I'm very proud to bring some youth to this organization."
Smiling, Wilson added: "With me and Marv, you can nickname us in the pro football world, the Two Golden Boys."
Wilson and Levy -- with help from then-Bills GM Bill Polian, now the Indianapolis Colts president -- were golden once before. Wilson is betting it can happen again, hiring Levy a day after firing team president and general manager Tom Donahoe for failing to build a playoff contender during his five-year tenure.

"We're bringing Marv back so that he can bring a stability to the Buffalo Bills," Wilson said.
With a 112-70 record, Levy is the winningest coach in Bills history and was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2001. Since retiring in 1997, Levy has worked mostly as an NFL broadcaster while living in his native Chicago.
Levy will be responsible for the Bills football-related decisions. He will also act as a mentor for coach Mike Mularkey, who was retained despite struggling in his second season.
Among Levy's first priorities is evaluating his team's roster.
The Bills have four starters eligible for free agency, the most notable being cornerback Nate Clements.
Levy will also have to prepare for the draft in April. The Bills have the eighth overall pick.
Levy's addition earned praise from safety Troy Vincent.
"It'll be a good balance for the franchise as a whole. Coach Mularkey can learn a lot from his experience," Vincent told The Associated Press. "Times have changed, but football's football."
Referring to Levy's age as a non-factor, Vincent said, "There's nothing like wisdom. He'll bring a lot to the table."
Levy is aware that his presence alone won't change the course of a team that's gone 31-49 in its last five years, tied with Cleveland for the third-fewest victories in the NFL during that span.
"I realize that if you don't change with the times, the times are going to change you," Levy said. "So this isn't a return to the good old days. We revere the tradition and the great teams we had. But things are different."

Doesn't Levy have a degree in Literature from Harvard?

Chris Speilman would throw himself in front of on-coming traffic for that guy.

That's all I need to know about Levy to rank him up there as one of my all-time favorite football guys.

Packers breaking news... I just caught the end, and this is a new name to me, so this could be off base. Mike McCarthy is rumored to have been hired as the new head coach, and they're working on confirmation.

The Green Bay Packers are set to hire Mike McCarthy as their new head coach, according to NFL sources.

McCarthy, 42, was the Packers’ quarterbacks’ coach in 1999, and this past season was the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive coordinator. Before that he was offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints from 2000 through 2004.

The Packers are expected to announce the hiring sometime Thursday or Friday morning

General Manager Ted Thompson interviewed McCarthy on Sunday — he was one of seven candidates Thompson met with in a search to replace fired coach Mike Sherman. Thompson’s final interview was Tuesday with defensive coordinator Jim Bates, who also appeared to be a leading candidate. But Bates said Thompson informed him early Wednesday evening that he wasn’t getting the job.

McCarthy is one of the many coaches league-wide who runs a version of the West Coast offense.

That would be a surprise to me.... not sure how I feel about him. I know Favre liked him so maybe this is a sign he's coming back (I can hope, can't I?).
