New York Yankees (27x World Series Champions)

Its bad enough that they are moving from teh House that Ruth Built.... But the "Manhattan Bombers?"

Nah... They need to do exactly what they are doing.

Second... and I hope they don't keep too many design features from Yankee Stadium... jmho... I do love the fact that they are keeping the field dimensions (One of the pet peeves I have about new ballparks is the construction of these launching pads they've built... 290 feet to dead center? Hell... No problem... hats off to Detroit.)

Anyway... Its one of those things where... while its sad for Yankee Stadium to have to close... its inevitable... and... I was listening to some sports shows and they were putting Fenway and Wrigley with YS as the 3 venerable venues in baseball... and I don't disagree... but I kind of think that it will be a bigger shame to lose Wrigley and Fenway (if or when that happens) just due to the sheer unique architectural nature of those parks... Yankee Stadium to me is more "hallowed" for the feats that have occurred there than the building itself... and its not like the memory of those great baseball (and football) games will be lost because of a new venue. Anyway... as much as I hate NYC... I may have to go for a game before it closes.... (And root for the other team :wink2: )

gonna have to disagree sloopy. MOST yankee fans are idiots. they don't know shit about the yankees except their 26 rings.....which is the only reason they cheer for them. you ask an average yankee fan who his favorite yankee is and it will be whoever their newest aquisition is. how can you be a long time yankee fan and have randy johnson as your favorite yankee? arod? sheffield? you can't.

even in NYC....you just have people who like the yankees because everybody else does and because they want to brag about being in the same city as the yankees. they couldn't name 5 pitchers on the team or tell you who normally plays 2nd base....but they have a yankee hat that they will wear the day after they win the world series.

So... you aren't from Ohio... you didn't go to Ohio State... what the hell is your excuse? :wink2:

Anyway... If there are still yankee fans out there now... probably not bandwagon jumpers... since they suck. :banger:

I completely agree. I don't want to get on Sloops' bad side but Yankee Stadium itself doesn't really do anything for me. Wrigley and Fenway have character.

IS: "MOST yankee fans are idiots. they don't know shit about the yankees except their 26 rings"

Don't be a moron. The Yankee fan base is the same as any other team. New Yorkers cheer for the Yankees or Mets, just as the same as Clevelanders cheer for the Indians, or Texans cheer for the Astros or Rangers. Who are people in New York supposed to cheer for, the Montreal Expos??

"you ask an average yankee fan who his favorite yankee is and it will be whoever their newest aquisition is."

First off, lets get something straight: Baseball is to New York city what football is to Ohio. Its by far the biggest sport, and passions run deep. I guarantee that I can walk to Times Square, pull a random guy out of the crowd, and he's forgotten more baseball & more Yankees then you'll EVER know about your team.

Be it the Yankees OR the Mets, the fans in the Stadium know more about the team & what's going on with the team than any other city in America. Bar none. Period.

Maybe where you are in PA, that's not the case, but that's not New York City, and it represents a small, bare minimum of Yankee fans who're most likely bandwagoners.

AKAK: "Its bad enough that they are moving from teh House that Ruth Built.... But the "Manhattan Bombers?"

Being born & bred in the Boogie Down, I for one would be very upset if they moved to any other borgough. Forget about the ogeda I had when Big Stein used to threaten to move the team to New Jersey.

"and I hope they don't keep too many design features from Yankee Stadium... jmho... I do love the fact that they are keeping the field dimensions (One of the pet peeves I have about new ballparks is the construction of these launching pads they've built"

Here's the scoop I got: the inside of the Stadium is going to resemble the post-renovation Yankee Stadium (1976 to today), with the difference being that there will only be two decks (not three) with 30,000+ at field level. The outside of the Stadium will resemble the pre-renovated Stadium (1923 to 1974). There'll also be a lot of concourses, restaurants, and new electronics built into the place.

"So... you aren't from Ohio... you didn't go to Ohio State... what the hell is your excuse?"

Stalker, you didn't go to Ohio State??? What the F are you doing on this site everyday?? Is it JUST to annoy me??

As much as I hate the Yankees, I have to admit that their fans seem very knowledgeable about their team and about baseball in general. They really embrace Yankee history, not just the latest acquisition. I think Sloopy demonstrates this with his vilification of A-Rod. :) And the only true "bandwagon" Yankee fans I've met are those dipshit teenagers who root for them here in Boston just to piss off their Sox-loving parents.

Sushi: "I think Sloopy demonstrates this with his vilification of A-Rod."

Not only me & not only A-Rod, I don't know a single Yankee fan who matches this comment: "you ask an average yankee fan who his favorite yankee is and it will be whoever their newest aquisition is."

That's the furthest thing from the truth I've ever heard. In New York (more than any other place), you have to prove yourself before the fans embrace you. Tino got booed when he was first here, so did Giambi, and so did A-Rod. That's a dumb comment from a know-nothing "fan."

For the record, here is the love/hate meter for Yankee fans:

1. Beyond reproach (playing w/ house money): Jeter, Rivera, Bernie, & Tino.

2. Won Championships, but not beyond reproach: Posada & Mike Stanton.

3. Like, but hasn't won the big one yet: Matsui, Sheffield, Mussina, Robinson Cano, Tanyon Sturtze, & Chien-Mien Wang.

4. Wavering: Tom Gordon.

5. To be determined: Randy Johnson, Carl Pavano, & Tony Womack (this will drop a notch if the Yankees blow it again & these guys don't perform well).

6. Needs to be on a Championship team to ever be slightly liked (is currently NOT liked): A-Rod & Giambi.

7. HATRED (never be forgiven): Kevin Brown.

"And the only true "bandwagon" Yankee fans I've met are those dipshit teenagers who root for them here in Boston just to piss off their Sox-loving parents."

I didn't know anyone born in Boston likes the Yanks. Nice to know some people there are being brought up the right way.

ok, for the reading impared, ill state this again.

THE YANKEE FAN BASE is mostly made up of idiots. Did I say the yankee fans in New York City only? No. Learn to fucking read you dipshit Sloopy.

I'm really fucking tired of your act. You are on a fucking message board. You are going to get replies from people. 100 other people can reply to you, but when I do I'm all of a sudden a stalker. If thats your only come back then you are pathetic. If you have such a fucking problem with me then don't answer anything I say. It's that simple. I didn't have any ill intent in that post, yet you decided to be the typical New York Yankee and jump to the defensive like the pussy you are. Fuck you.

Hey moron, the Yankee fan base is made up mostly of people LIVING IN NEW YORK CITY. You think some Spock-ear wearing butt-buddy that you know in Bullprick, PA who happens to be a Yankee fan is representative of most of the people in NY? OK ..

"I'm really fucking tired of your act."

So stop replying to my posts. Simple as that. Or put me on ignore. We'd both be happier that way.

"100 other people can reply to you, but when I do I'm all of a sudden a stalker."

No. You have nothing to do with Ohio State, you have nothing to do with the Yankees, & your sole purpose is to write stupid one-line posts CONSTANTLY on these two topics to incite other people's reactions, namely me. THAT's what makes you a Stalker.

And if I was so wrong about your Stalk-itude, then you wouldn't get so upset about it, which you apparently do.

I see Costanza's.....27's point. There are alot of Yankee fans in N.E Ohio that I know, and very few of them were fans when Donny baseball was there not making the playoffs. Since the Bernie, Jeter run, I'm seeing alot more Yankee apparel than I ever did. It's easy for non NY bandwagoners to hop aboard, they're the ultimate team for a jumper: they're always good and if not, you know Geo. will spend and do what it takes to reach the top again.

In my book, baseball is always better when the Yankees are supposed to win, but don't. The last few years have indeed been good. :osu:

Getting out of the pissing match and back to the topic at hand. If you want to know the real reasons why this is going down, here they are:

1. The Yankees are building a new Stadium because they were going to spend a lot of that money anyway for revenue sharing. According to Major League Baseball's basic agreement, the Yankees can now subtract all stadium construction debt from their gross revenues, and save about $30 million a year that otherwise would be paid to the small market teams in luxury tax.

2. Assuming the CBA remains the same (the current one expires in 2006), or similar, the Yankees eventually could skim as much as $300 million from these revenue-sharing funds. Then they could get another $200million or so in naming rights for the plaza (the new ballpark will be called Yankee Stadium at (this space for sale) Plaza), for the field or for other sponsored spaces. The revenue from the 50 or so luxury suites could mean hundreds of millions more over the first decade.

3. That leaves the Yankees with a real-money investment of ... nearly nothing.

Well, then why don't they just pay for the parking improvements themselves?

I think it's a good idea that they can use construction to reuce the amount of revenue they have to share. I totally agree with George for being pissed that some small market teams are not using their portion of revenue sharing on improving the on field product.

Brutus1: "Well, then why don't they just pay for the parking improvements themselves?"

Why would any corporation (or person, for that matter) pay a dime more than they have to? The parking lots, subway, restaurants, & hotel are city improvements that the taxpayers don't mind shelling out for. Especially if they improve the neighborhood around the Stadium.

"I totally agree with George for being pissed that some small market teams are not using their portion of revenue sharing on improving the on field product."

Actually, I think George is just pissed that he has to give up the money. I don't think he minds if the other teams don't use it to drive up the prices for free agents & his own players.

I get upset about your stupid act because thats all it is. a fucking act. i say something, you reply with "youre a stalker". it just gets fucking old. I reply to one of your posts....but because it isnt shooting sunshine up the yankees ass then you can't handle it and call me a stalker. If ANY other member of this site wrote exactly what I wrote you wouldve had a different response. But since you're such a little shit you can't get past the user name. Fuck off.

LET ME REPHRASE THIS SO YOUR DUMB FUCKING ASS CAN UNDERSTAND.
The yankees are probably the most popular team in the world. I know it's hard for a fuckwad yankee fan like yourself to understand that there is a wolrd outside of New York City. Well, there is. There are Yankee fans all across the country and all across the world. So no, the majority of them aren't in NYC. Even if they were, the majority of the yankee fans in NYC are the dipshit kind.

In conclusion, fuck off and die.

"I reply to one of your posts....but because it isnt shooting sunshine up the yankees ass then you can't handle it and call me a stalker."

Actually, OilerBuck, bb73, AKAK, Sushi, Nutty, the former Di, Mili, & many others on this site hate the Yankees too. But I don't have any problem with them. But then again, they're secure enough in themselves to give credit where credit is due. They don't have to constantly reach at straws & try to spin things for whatever reason you do.

They can also write a post that's longer than one run-on sentence, which I like too.

"The yankees are probably the most popular team in the world."

Agreed. But where is MOST of that fanbase located? Japan? Timbuk Tu? Sayre, PA? Detroit? MOST of that fanbase is in New York-northern New Jersey-southern Connecticut. And you said that MOST of the fanbase are idiots & bandwagon fans. Which is incorrect. MOST of the fanbase OUTSIDE of NY probably fit the criteria you describe. But that's nowhere near MOST of the fanbase. Capish? Am I getting through here?

"In conclusion, fuck off and die."

I see the comebacks haven't improved over the months. In fact, they haven't changed at all. I think I'm going to put a new referendum for BP. All newbies have to go to "Mili-training" before they start posting. Mili will teach you how to write funny comebacks, creative comebacks, or something with some bite, so when you get into it with a poster, you can get barbecued & come back with something better than 'Fuck off Sloopy.'

"i say something, you reply with "youre a stalker"."

To make peace, I won't call you InternetStalker anymore. I'll come up with something different. You pick the name you want to be called:

InternetFollower
InternetTracker
Fatal_AttraNation
WebTrailer
ForumTracker
InternetSeeker
HounderNation
Tag_Along

You let me know, and I'll be glad to call you that. Or, I can come up with more if you like.
