my office is by PENN STATIOn and the streets are dead today - even the offices that i can look into the the windows are bare - everyone except myself stayed home from work today

I am VP of my local union in Ohio (about 300 people). I am not going to get into whether unions are good or bad because I can imagine you know my feelings. I do feel for the people that are affected by the transit strike on a day-to-day basis, however people always look at it from their point of view or their inconvience. I would imagine with many employers raising health care premiums, trying to cut jobs,etc. that these workers are worried more about their future and the future of their families than if someone was put out having to walk a couple of miles to work. All I'm saying is if the roles were reversed you may feel a little more compassion for the workers.

In private cases - if they were really worried about their future they would worry about the viability of their firm. Look at what the unions did to steel production in the US. You can't just continue to choke the golden goose.

Since this is a govt monopoly, the costs will simply be passed on to the public. These are unskilled workers already getting paid far above their skill set. On every level I can think of they are wrong.

How long is that commute from PA? Mine is a 1.5 mile commute and cannot imagine a long commute, but I know people who love it. One person I know does a 1.5 hour each way trip. He loves it because it gives him time to think about what he is going to do and did each day.

obviously depends on where you live, stroudsburg (on 80 near the border) is 75 miles or so.
