After a profitable meeting with owner Wayne Weaver this morning in Jacksonville, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio will stay in his current job for at least the 2010 season.


Del Rio, 58-57 in seven seasons at the helm, was thought to be on shaky ground with Weaver for a few reasons. He's only won one playoff game in his tenure and the Jags had a miserable end-of-the-year stretch by finishing with a four-game losing streak. Complicating matters, it was no secret the job at USC held some allure for Del Rio, a Trojans' alum, in the wake of Pete Carroll leaving for the Seahawks over the weekend.

Mike Riley agrees to three-year extension at Oregon St. - NCAA Football - SI.com

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State football coach Mike Riley has agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2019.
The extension, announced by the university late Sunday, effectively quashes rumors that Riley might be a candidate for the Southern California job. Pete Carroll is expected to leave the Trojans to coach the Seattle Seahawks.
"Due to the fact there is a lot of speculation on my future, I want to make it known that I'm very excited to be coaching at Oregon State University and I anticipate doing so for a long time," Riley said in a statement.

But I would also contend that most NFL-bred coaches are similarly ill-equipped to handle the unique challenges of coaching collegians. ​

What name coach in his right mind would take that job knowing the hammer will come down and he will probably struggle for several years?
They need an interim/fall guy for a couple then bring in a big guy.
