New Mexico at New Mexico State...worst game ever?

Just for fun and because I was bored for 15 minutes:

Not sure if there will be a v-bet or not (hint hint ) but this week's game could be the most ginormous pile of epic suck in the history of college football. New Mexico is 0-5 and has been outscored 263-61. NMSU is 0-4 and has been outscored 184-47. These numbers make NMSU 118th in points scored and 119th in points allowed. New Mexico is 177th in points scored (because of their epic 20 against UTEP) and 120th in points allowed. Out of 120.

Want more?

NMSU is 116th in total offense. UNM is 118th.

UNM is converting less than 30% of their 3rd downs. NMSU is converting an epic 35%.

Combined points for both teams all season is 108. Combined penalties is 65.

Fewest points allowed by either team in a game? 38

Number of first downs Ohio State has running the ball: 55.
Number of first downs UNM AND NMSU have running the ball COMBINED: 53
Number of first downs NMSU has all season: 58

Number of first downs for Oregon this season: 136
Number of First downs for UNM and NMSU COMBINED: 137

QB rating at NMSU: 102.9
QB rating at UNM: 87.8
If you ADD those 2 numbers (190.7) they barely reach Auburn (188.8) Boise State (184.3) or NW/dUMb (181.3). OSU is 159.3.

Oregon's kicker has kicked 37 extra points. Both kickers on this game COMBINED have attempted 13...and managed to make 12.

NMSU is 10th nationally in punts attempted (31) despite playing only 4 games. Combined, the teams have punted 70 times...almost 8 times a game. The entire PAC10 has only punted 191 times...about 4 a game.

Finally...NMSU has ZERO sacks OR interceptions. UNM has 4 sacks and one INT. That's a combined 4 sacks and 1 INT in 9 games.

Has there ever been a game between 2 worse teams?

New Mexico high school football is not that bad so you have to wonder just what exactly the problem is? Big time talent is produced in the system but leaves the state.
UNM has been decent at times so they appear to be just in a down cycle. Locksley(the Illinois assistant coach) has made mistake after mistake so he bears a lot of responsibility for their current state. Bad fit. (His wife is a stunner! )
NMSU has historically been bad. Their coach is the ex-UCLA guy. Supposedly a good defensive guy. Not a great recruiter.
I'll go with UNM in this one because they have a bit more talent.

I remember reading the SI college football preview in 1978. They mentioned the NW'ern-Illinois game (season opener), and said something like "These teams are both so bad neither one can win", and it ended up a 0-0 tie.

NW'ern ended up 0-10-1, being outscored 440-92.

Illinois ended up 1-8-2, with a win at Syracuse and a home tie against Wiscy, being outscored 317-103.

But it was a great prediction for a total suckfest.

I'm predicting 2-0 New Mexico State on a snap out of the back of the endzone, but they have to forfeit the game because Locksley punches New Mexico's coach after.

If Locksley punches himself I think the NCAA might give New Mexico the win outright

This is the functional equivalent to a 2010 porn flick staring Rosie O'Donnell and Phil Specter.

It would be truly frightening to watch - and yet there remains a perverse and unexplainable urge to flip on the TV and watch a few minutes.

I think you meant to say Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer

I wouldn't watch, but I bet all the Gator fans would....

UNM has been decent at times

Rocky Long was a solid head coach, but I guess he was a little too defensive-minded for some.

When Mumme was at NM State, they would at least put points on the board. Now, they aren't good at any phase of the game.

This is one game to miss.
