New DC Thread (Merged all relevant)

Grad21....I love you like my brother....we are deep....

but, for one second could you see coach tressel saying "yeah tucker turned us down, so we decided on heacock."

i think the fact that it is even public knowledge that tucker was approached lends itself to Nevadas inside info....

if it were not for his info....nobody would have ever known the real course of events...

I think you are misinterpreting my purpose here...and I didn't do too good of a job clarifying at all.

I wanted to show that the article verified the meeting with Tucker to basically verify the NV info.

Just like any coaching search, the only "official" offer is the one accepted

I posted this way back on 3/16--no inside connections, just instincts:

"Why not Luke Fickell?

"Under normal circumstances I would agree with what is probably the majority sentiment--that he's not ready yet. But given our current circumstances, I think a case can be made that he would be a great pick. It's hardly a rebuiilding year. If it were, I'd say no to Fickell. But the system is already in place--and Fickell knows the system. And the personnel are, for the most part, already in place--and Fickell not only knows the personnel, but also has great relationships with them. It could be a pretty smooth transition. He's going to be Defensive Coordinator some day."

Ok, so "co-coordinator" is not quite "Defensive Coordinator." But, mark it down:

Luke Fickell = heir apparent

Ok, so I was also pumping Dick LeBeau for the job.

i can't answer for nevadabuck, but it is obvious that coach tressel approached mel tucker....and he declined....then it went to heacock....

again...it is CLEAR that tucker was approached....

Maybe I said that wrong. I certainly wasn't doubting Nevada, more just looking for the next step on who may be the position coach.

next step in the discussion is what position coach is needed and who will it be....

i'm thinking DL or LB

maybe Steve Tovar?

any ideas
If Fickell is moved back to the DL then Steve Tovar is really the only name I can think of right now. I don't think Pepper Johnson is going to leave the Pats and Spielman is with the Destroyers.

Already been decided..Tucker has the offer....its his job to take--

If he passes it goes to Gary Blackney--end of story---
Went to work thinking this was in stone... come home and have not even heard Blackney's name mentioned.

Maybe in a few years when Heacock retires (I had heard rumors he would look in that direction soon), Tucker will come in and take his spot.
I think in a few years Tucker will be looking for a head coaching position. Fickell seeems to be the one in line for the DC position. Looks like Luke was the big winner today.

I just read the most moronic post (and there are a lot of them) ever on bucknuts.

"I agree with Buckeyesal. Tressel's move is a selfish one. He wants HIS Offense and HIS Defense and has the lemmings in place to do so. No GOOD Defensive Coordinator or Offensive Coord by their rite mind would come here because GOOD D and O Coord want the ability to do it their way. Tressel wants lemmings and has them."

Well Alan- It would seem that we were very close to the situation but maybe didnt listen close enough....I know that I heard Heacock and predicted as such....The only problem is that its the other one...I certainly will pay more attention in the weeks and months to come. I think that you and I were very close to the situation, but just a little off.

I stand by the fact that the players do not want Coach "Tuck" back in the mix. Yes, it is common knowledge that EJ did not have a good relationship with Mel. But, I think many people would be surprised at the things this man did off the field. He made many promises that he did not keep. EJ is a good kid-He WILL be an impact player in the FALL!

I know for an absolute FACT that he was told to take the time this spring to make SURE that he would be Academically sound for the season. He has not missed a class and is busting his butt to join his teamates.

Off track- Anyway- Heacock was a fantastic choice and at least I got the name right....

Go Bucks-

I've been rooting for EJ, but I heard on another site he had some bad habits...i.e. partied hard, neglected his classes. I hope he realizes the opportunity he has at OSU. The guy has some quicks. 2nd fastest 40 posted at OSU...2nd only to Galloway, I heard.
But he needs to work hard at the CB positions. Too many times he was burned.
I hope Youbouty rubs off on him. Consistency.
Plus his little brother Brandon probably getting a bad rap, because of whats going on with his brother.
