On firefox, I sign in and either click the redirect link or let the browser do it, and I'm immediately signed out.
I am able to remain signed in with IE in the same scenario.

Things to try to speed along the login recognition:
Clear cookies. I did this for an hour's worth, but had older ones on the system - a week cleared them all.
Clear your browser cache.
Ctrl-F5 a single page to force it to get a fresh, un-cached copy if you get funny formatting.
You can also try knocking the old address out of the system for good and making it look for new ones by flushing DNS. Here's the first Google result for how to do that.
