New Big-10 Bowl Tie-ins (Merge)

Re: As many of you know, the bowl system was launched to promote tourism in warm-weather cities and to allow fans, many of them in Big Ten country, to escape the cold around the holidays. There's a reason bowls are named after roses and oranges instead of snow plows and antifreeze. People want to watch football in late December and early January in short sleeves and shorts. They want a vacation-like setting. The locations of the bowl games drive the appeal. That's the way it is, and the way it always will be.

Which is why the bowl game in Hawaii would be a great B1G "tie in".

It's official. Detroit Lions & Big Ten teaming up to put on a bowl game. Naming rights TBD. But enjoy December in the D.

At least one civic organization in Big 10 territory got off its ass and did something. But there should be a law against arena ball. Save those places for basketball, circus shows and tractor pulls.

Too bad it has to be a bankrupt looks-like-Dresden-1945 town. It should have been Chicago or Columbus and it should have been for the winner of the Big 10 vs the Pac 12 winner on an every other year at your place basis. Better still, insist on one playoff site being in Chicago, one in NYC/NJ, one in Miami and one in LA. Championship site to REVOLVE each year.

If you want a winter vacation, go take one. Sit on the beach, drink your pina collada and watch on your laptop. Gives you one more day to sit in the sun without having to go sit in a stadium with $7 beer and asshats chanting SEC, SEC, SEC!!!

If you want an important end-of-the-year-reward-contest that treats the schools of ALL four major conferences fairly, insist on geographical parity. You could even sell it as a chance for kids from the SEC and Texas schools to learn how to play the game in the weather/climate of over half the NFL sites.
