Carmen Ohio

All-American
The release of Mandel/SI's post-spring rankings changes the average ranking numbers to this:

1) USC (1.0)
2) Texas (3.2) (NC-2, ESPN-2, CBS-4, CFN-6, SI-2)
2) Tennesee (3.2) (NC-4, ESPN-4, CBS-3, CFN-2, SI-3)
4) Ohio State (5.6) (NC-7, ESPN-7, CBS-6, CFN-4, SI-4)
5) Iowa (5.8) (NC-11, ESPN-5, CBS-2, CFN-3, SI-8)

This is the average ranking from 5 polls that have been released so far - NationalChampions, Forde/ESPN, Dodd/CBS, Mandel/SI and College Football News. All except SI are before spring practice so they're subject to change.

As you can see we eked by Iowa thanks to the SI ranking. The "experts" don't quite know what to do with the Hawkeyes with their ranking ranging from 2 to 11. I'd be surprised if we're not in the top 5 going into the season.

The only reason we're not ranked higher is the uncertainty at some positions mainly qb and rb. Our defense is better then the other top 10 teams and once smith or zwick/pittman or haw step up we should see our ranking go up. And right now USC and Texas i think are overrated. USC doesn't really play anybody good until the bowl games and have a lot of academic problems with their players right now, and Texas and Mack Brown never win the big games so you can count them out of the championship game. Its also nice to see a top 25 ranking that doesn't mention the ncaa investigation.

USC basically gets back their entire offense from a team that went undefeated and blasted Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. They may miss Lendale White some if he doesn't play, but they enough backs to do fine behind that O-line while defenses worry about Leinart throwing the ball.

They might have a problem at corner, but there's still a bunch of talent on defense. There's no way to justify anybody else being #1 in the preseason. That doesn't mean that they have to stay there until they lose, however. Contrary to what most poll voters think, there's nothing wrong with moving teams around early in the year; it should actually be encouraged.

USC is overrated compared to who? Texas should be a damn good team too. If you look at the rest of the country. Assuming that I would put tOSU at the top of this poll, with my scarlet colored glasses on. What other team(s) are better than USC and/or Texas?

Come on. USC IS WAY OVERRATED!

(compared to the Patriots)

haha well I hope you was being sarcastic about the USC playing the Patriots. The pats would HAMMER USC into the ground. Hey does anyone know why Tennessee is ranked so high? what do they have coming back that is so special? Because I mean you don't lose to NOTRE DAME AT HOME and have tons of weapons coming back the next year.

I assume you meant to say "No way Michigan will even sniff #2 this year let alone #1." but I have to disagree.

I assure you Michigan will sniff number two this year. They can't help it... it's in the air up there near the big out house.

[sarcasm]Well, using that logic, how the hell are we ranked so high? What do we have coming back that is so special. I mean you dont we lose to Northwestern ANYTIME and have tons of weapons coming back the next year[/sarcasm]:!:tongue2:

Hey. Come on guys. We're gonna suck next year right? These writers are right every year and who should argue with these FUCKING JACKASSES. right?

Gottfried? What's he on? Is he trying to jinx us or what? It's USC vs the Patriots next year (of course we're faster than the Pats, but don't tell anybody that).

What's Gottfried? Yiddish for God's buddy? He needs to chill.

Mark May couldn't navigate his way down a one way street at high noon. He'd shit himself. Maisel really thinks Texas can beat OSU on the road.

Remember how Tress gets his bonus: Championship or Bust. This guy has balls like Tony Montana. The writers' top ten is what walks.

Does anyone think Texas would have beat scUM in the bowl game if Young was not at QB. I really do not. We helped them so much by exposing scUMs weakness of not being able to defend a mobile QB. Young took advantage of this and kicked their ass. If they had a pocket passer it would not have even been a game.

Texas is OVERRATED.

VINCE YOUNG is not!
