The release of Mandel/SI's post-spring rankings changes the average ranking numbers to this:
1) USC (1.0)
2) Texas (3.2) (NC-2, ESPN-2, CBS-4, CFN-6, SI-2)
2) Tennesee (3.2) (NC-4, ESPN-4, CBS-3, CFN-2, SI-3)
4) Ohio State (5.6) (NC-7, ESPN-7, CBS-6, CFN-4, SI-4)
5) Iowa (5.8) (NC-11, ESPN-5, CBS-2, CFN-3, SI-8)
This is the average ranking from 5 polls that have been released so far - NationalChampions, Forde/ESPN, Dodd/CBS, Mandel/SI and College Football News. All except SI are before spring practice so they're subject to change.
As you can see we eked by Iowa thanks to the SI ranking. The "experts" don't quite know what to do with the Hawkeyes with their ranking ranging from 2 to 11. I'd be surprised if we're not in the top 5 going into the season.
