Yep. Physical media are always available right away because Netflix can just go out and buy them. For streaming, they have to negotiate a license with the studios - so movies and shows from some studios are on and some are not. Sometimes there are movies that are available for streaming for a while and then the license isn't renewed and they are gone. Some studios/networks are exclusive to one service or another between Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc.

I'm not a big movie guy, so I don't notice what's there with Netflix and what's not. I love it for TV shows. It has a better sampling of all of my favorites than the other services do.
