Need washer fixed... recommendations?

The front reads Kenmore Super Capacity 35... It's an HE washer. Can't find anything more specific, without wiggling it out and getting back behind it.

It just ran the first part of the cycle and fully drained... but still made the mechanical buzzing (maybe belt) noise upon drain/fill.

Definitely tied to the water input/output.

Did you look for the model no on the inside of the door?

OK.. I'll be serious... I hate doin' that... it's so non-me...
The $75 is most likely the service call ONLY... not toward your repair bill.. just the fee for them to come look and tell you what's wrong... thereafter you will get an estimate of parts and labor (which will be at least $50/hour)...

I'd say it's likely you're looking at service call and 2 hours labor = $175 plus parts

Key question... how old is the washer? If you bought top of the line, they probably have 12-15 year life... second tier... 10-12 years... look at what's on sale, and weigh your decision.. fix or new

PS with the 5 kids you're gonna have.. you're be doing LOTS of laundry...

Sears is towards the repair I believe... forgot to ask the independent guy (same initial cost).

I'll see if there's a parts/maintenance manual on-line somewhere that might show how the water gets to the tub (assuming that's where the buzzing is from).

If repriming the pump doesn't work, whatever else the root cause might (valve, solenoid, capacitor, belt, pump, etc.) it won't be easy for you to do. You'll probably have to have someone come and do the repair.

My experience... have SEARS come fix it... He'll know Kenmore's in-and-out...

The 'water seal' trick seemed to have helped... the buzzing/churning noise of the drain was much less severe this time. It was pretty quiet while draining the water, but got louder when trying to drain an empty tank.

Just tried restarting it, and it didn't make any awful buzz/churn noise upon startup.

The noise would not have concerned me with a washer at college, but this one is remarkably quiet during most of the cycle... so it was quite out of the ordinary.

Unless you advise otherwise, I think I'll try running a quick cycle with nothing in it and see how it performs.
