Need washer fixed... recommendations?

My kenmore washer makes an awful buzzing noise soon after startup... I think during the water intake. I don't really have any knowledge on fixing this sort of thing. If you have a suggestion for what and how to check certain parts, by all means share... but in case you do not....

Anyone have any good recommendations for a handyman in the Pataskala area?

Also, I was quoted $75 by one business. Is that a fair rate?

Sounds like the flux capacitor is shot.

Does the 75 bucks go towards the fix, or is it just the service call fee?

Usually, the service call fee goes towards the fix. Not sure if it's reasonable or not since I haven't had a service guy out in a while. But, it sounds within reason.

As for the problem... is it just a noise, or is it failing in any way? When you say washer, do you mean Laundry or Dishes?

Laundry. I haven't let it run through (didn't want to compound problem), but the previous full cycle had leftover water :sick1:

I believe the $75 goes towards the labor/parts.

Top loader?

Is the agitator spinning? Does it smell like somethings burning?

If there's water left over than it probably isn't spinning anymore -- so it's likely a belt. Set the load to small and lift the lid. Turn the dial to the middle of a cycle and run it with the lid up. Press your pinkie finger into the recess where the pin would be if the lid would closed, so it'll run while you watch. See if the agitator is spinning back and forth.

If it's just a belt, I'd say pay the $75 and be done with it.

An awful lot of people need repairmen around here, I'm thinking of starting a new business...

I never have enough money in my checking account to call for repairmen all the time, however...... $75 seems a bit steep to me, I would think more around $50. DEFINITELY make sure that goes towards any repair (that is typically customary but always better to know for sure.)

How old is the washer? Keep in mind you can get a brand new spanking model for around 500... If it's older I certainly wouldn't put much in to it... you are already looking at about 1/5 the cost of a new one and that is before they have even touched it...

Imo, I'd try running a cycle, stand there, watch it, does it fill, does it seem to have trouble agitating, does it empty, does it spin... after you have all that info you will know a lot better if it is a clogged intake, clooged drain, bad bearing, bad motor, something with the computer, etc...

if at any time you feel you are doing more damage to the machine you can turn it off (just push the big round button in.)

hmm, well the buzzing seemed to lessen a little bit as I let it run it's course, and once the water intake stopped... it was fine. Shetuck had an interesting suggestion about whether a recent loss in water pressure could have caused it... perhaps that was all it was.

Will see if it still makes that painful buzzing sound upon water intake during the next cycle.

That's what I was concerned about (damage), but $75 (+ more?) for something simple was a bigger concern.
