Need some advice (alumni association/tickets)

Mac

That's a pain in the buns
So this upcoming year will be my first eligible season to get alumni tickets, and I have to pay for alumni membership. I figured it out, if I paid year by year I would spend a LOT more money than if I just did the lifetime membership (can't remember the exact figure but it's like $1300). Which if I paid by year the same amount for the lifetime would equal to me being 45yrs old, obviously the better deal is the lifetime.

Is the alumni association membership worth it? I would like to go to at the very least 1 game a year, but I could do that and get close to face (which is what I'd pay through the membership). My fiance thinks that its a lot of money when I could get tickets as said above. And I know I'm not gaurenteed tickets through the AA.

What other perks do I get by joining the alumni association?

What's everyones experience, thoughts, etc??

Thanks,
Mac

Here are some of the benefits you can get out of the Alumni Association:

Ticket lottery

Golf Course privileges

Alumni Magazine

Active Alumni Association members are given the opportunity to purchase tailgate-and- football ticket packages at some away games (Buckeye Bashes)

Ohio State?s Office of Continuing Education provides a 10% discount on its quarterly noncredit courses to Ohio State graduates.

KAPLAN EDUCATIONAL CENTERS
Course discounts are available for members and their immediate families. Courses include GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, DAT, PSAT, SAT, and ACT.

The vast resources of the Ohio State University Libraries are available to members. This includes on-site borrowing privileges as well as entry to the Alumni Online Library--a database that contains six million volumes primarily in the EBSCOhost database and access to the more than 38 million owned by OhioLINK libraries

Alumni Insurance Programs

Alumni Travel Tours

Members of the Alumni Association receive discounts of 13% to 30% off Columbus Blue Jacket ticket prices (subject to availability).

Alumni Association Members receive a 20% discount on admission to the new Jack Nicklaus Museum on Olentangy River Road.

Association members may purchase an affiliate membership ($144 per quarter or $547 per year) granting access to all facilities of the Department of Recreational Sports.

The Alumni Association is what you make of it. You can use it to its full extent or just use some of the benefits.:osu: If you can afford the $1500 for the lifetime membership... instead donate it to the buckeye club and you'll get a whole season's worth of tickets at face value. :)

Except you have to make the Buckeye Club donation each year and the $1500 gets you a lifetime of Alumni Association.

Honestly, I now buy my season tickets outside of Buckeye Club. It costs the same and I get to choose where I sit. I'd rather do the tickets through Buckeye Club but I got tired of never "moving up" in seating priority.

Bill, I see your point. The only thing though is you can't write off the donation on your taxes when you buy them through someone other than the school. I'm just banking on the fact that one day after enough donations i'll have sweet seats like my uncle who's had them for 50+ years now. Dont get me wrong, my seats are pretty respectable but I'd definitely trade for 40 yd line, 20 rows up. If I were Mac, I wouldnt rely on the Alumni Assoc. as a ticket source. You can always find tickets, and to a game you actually want to go to. There's too much risk with the Alumni Association if you are using it solely for fball tickets.
Go Bucks!
