NEED: miami ohio state (and bike parking)

osubeaver

Newbie
I just graduated from Oregon state and am traveling via bicycle from Portland to Washington Dc and I just realized I will be in Columbus on gameday. It being my first time in Columbus or Ohio for that matter Im wondering what kind of cost I should expect from a scalper for the game. I know its tough to say but I'm just looking for the cheapest I can get but am worried with it being the first game and urban being there that it'll get pricey.

My next question would be if you had any recommendations on where a guy could keep his bike. Problem is I got my bags and stuff with it.

Lastly if I cant get a ticket or cant find a safe place for my bike what bars should I look to go to? Preferably places I could watch my bike from a window or something like that.

Thanks a lot for the help, and good luck on the season

There's actually still tickets available on ticketmaster for the game. Face value is $70. Sounds like you're by yourself. Looks like there's still some really nice single seats available near the 50 yard line in the upper deck.

I believe there is a bike valet/corral.

From the Ohio State website:
Bicycle Parking
1. Recreation and Physical Activity Center is located at 337 West 17th Avenue, which is adjacent to the southeast corner of Ohio Stadium. Bikes racks are located on the east and west side of the building. These bike racks are open to the public, but are not monitored by staff.
2. "Pedal Instead" Bicycle Valet Corral is located at Woody Hayes Drive along the Olentangy River bike path. These bike racks are open to the public and are monitored by staff. For more information on "Pedal Instead," please contact Catherine Girves with the University Area Enrichment Association, 614-371-UAEA, [email protected] or log on to www.pavingtheway.org..

Wow awesome sounds like ill be able to go then thanks so much for the information I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Trip has been awesome albeit very hot (I went through okc to see a buddy). I plan my route very loosley and basically just try to ride highways from city/ region to city/ region. I try staying off interstates ( often times its illegal anyway) and gravel/ dirt roads. Rest stop maps and google maps with walking and hiking directions are best. Of course getting in and out of cities can be tricky but cities are the most fun so its worth it. Its nice at this point in the trip cause I know what gear I use (ive mailed back a lot) and what supplies I need to keep stocked but ya overall this trip came up very quickly and planned quickly but ive been on the road since July 2nd so I guess gameday will be a day from 2 months since I left.

Awesome. How far as you going each day? Ran into any crazy weather? What kind of bike?

I go anywhere from 50-90 a day I like the 60-70 range. Mountains and cities definitely lower that. I haven't had too much crazy weather, I mean its been an extremely hot summer and amarillo and okc were in the 105s well into the evenings. Some dust storms in Utah and lots and lots of lightening and hard rain but no tornadoes or hurricane Isaac's so I'm happy. Forest fires in Idaho and Oklahoma didn't affect me a whole lot.

I'm riding a touring bike, a navara safari. Its steel frame and a little longer than your average bike but I'm no bike expert. I have four pannier bags and a dry bag for my clothes
