The situation is this:

I'm on a committee at the school I work for whose purpose is to conceive, organize and execute various events for students in order that they remain encouraged and excited about coming to class and staying there.

We had planned to have a very elaborate cookout on October 14th--the day of the Michigan State game. So the idea was food, beverages, and the OSU game projected onto a nine foot screen. We had everything set up, including the installation of cable television. Now, it appears, the festering twats at corporate have decided that cable television is a tool of the fucking devil, and we're not allowed to have it (even though many, many of our school's other campuses do).

So. What I need to do now is figure out a way to broadcast the game here without the luxury of cable television. There are several restaurants nearby that will be showing the game (Damons, Dave and Buster's, etc.), and we've considered moving the event to one of those locations, but ideally, we'd still like to have the whole thing here, in the school. If anyone can think of a way that we can broadcast a clear, crisp feed without cable, I would very much love to hear it.

Danke.

Anybody who has a satelite dish can take the dish and reciever and set it up on site. All you have to do is tune the dish back in and your're set. I've done it a thousand times between my house and our vacation spot on the Ohio River.

Many tailgaters bring their dish network dish or DirecTV dish with them on a wooden stand and set up tvs in the lot. All you need is a clear view of the southern sky for the dish and power. I assume your people at corporate haven't deemed electricty the devil too. This saturday, I can ask my best collection of tailgaters exactly how they set it up and get back tou you.

That's what I'd suggest. Find someone with Direct TV, and borrow it for a day. No biggie at all.

Just in case the Salem Witch Trial crew balks at the very idea of a satellite dish ...

Run a test with one of the newer generation of Over The Air Aerials - the type intended for HDTV would be suitable. You may be able to simply feed from that OTA into a Tuner equipped Projector, or failing that, into a VCR and then into the projector.

If the VCR tunes to the OTA channels then you may be all set.

Turn on the radio, then diagram the plays for your students ...

After that, discuss the pros and cons of each formation and it's effectiveness against the defensive set. At half, diagram a Script Ohio and make one of the students carry a susaphone around. At the proper time, take your baton and point to the spot where they must bow and tip their cap.
