  • The Buckeyes traveled to Lincoln for the first time and took 2 of 3 from the Cornhuskers in Big Ten play.

    Game 1

    LINCOLN, Neb. - The Ohio State baseball team dropped the opening game of its Big Ten series with Nebraska, 11-2, Friday afternoon at Haymarket Park. With the loss the Buckeyes fall to 21-11 and 5-5 in the Big Ten while Nebraska improves to 14-17 and 8-2 in the Big Ten.
    After the Buckeyes went down in order in the first against Nebraska starter Christian DeLeon, the Huskers took an early 1-0 lead off of Ohio State starter Jaron Long as Chad Christiansen knocked in Rich Sanguinetti on a sacrifice fly to center.
    Following a scoreless second, the Buckeyes made it 1-1 on a Brad Hallberg solo home run in the top of the third, his first of the season.
    Nebraska responded with two of its own in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead, 3-1. A single, a walk and bunt single loaded the bases and the Huskers used an RBI single from Christiansen and a sacrifice fly from Austin Darby to push across their two runs.

    Game 2

    LINCOLN, Neb. - The Ohio State baseball team outlasted Nebraska in 11 innings, winning 6-5 Saturday afternoon in front of 4,076 spectators at Haymarket Park. The Buckeyes improve to 22-11 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten while Nebraska falls to 14-18 and 8-3 in the Big Ten.
    Nebraska took the game?s first lead in the bottom of the second inning as they got three singles off of OSU starter Brad Goldberg to go ahead 1-0.
    In the top of the fourth the Buckeyes evened the score up at 1-all. Patrick Porter led off the inning with a base hit and the next hitter, Jacob Bosiokovic, reached on an error on a throw from the Nebraska short stop. After both moving up on a wild pitch from Nebraska starter Aaron Bummer, Troy Kuhn knocked a base hit to right field to score Porter, but Bosiokovic was thrown out at home plate trying to give the Buckeyes the lead.
    With two outs in the bottom of the fourth the Huskers got a walk and consecutive singles to retake the lead at 2-1. Nebraska added two more to its lead in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-1.

    Game 3

    LINCOLN, Neb. - The Ohio State baseball team held on to beat Nebraska Sunday afternoon at Haymarket Park, 7-4. The Buckeyes take two of three from the Huskers and improve to 7-5 in the Big Ten and 23-11 overall.
    Brian King went 7.0 strong innings for the Buckeyes to pick up the win and improve to 5-4. King allowed no runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.
    After a scoreless first inning, the Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second off of Nebraska starting pitcher Tyler King. Jacob Bosiokovic led off with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Greg Solomon. After Troy Kuhn walked, Tim Wetzel hit a ground ball to second base but Nebraska shortstop Wes Erdington made a throwing error attempting to turn the double play and Bosiokovic came into score.
    Ryan Cypret reached first to lead off the top of the third after being hit by a pitch and would come around to score and give the Buckeyes a 2-0 advantage following a looping base hit to center by Kirby Pellant and an RBI single to left field by Patrick Porter.
