Nebraska 6, Missouri 41 (final)

I'm pretty sure a good coach and recruiter could get their fortunes turned around.
If small, previously unheralded schools can rise up (Rutgers, South Florida), then why cannot an old guard regain poise with the right leadership?

South Florida and Rutgers have much better recruiting territories. Giving Bill a contract extension just keeps that anchor on the program pulling down. If you give the guy Sam Keller and he can't put up double digits to Missouri on the road, what will it take? The second coming of Peyton Manning?

Nebraska can be good again as soon as their stupid coach realizes that if you want to have a good football team you have to be able to RUN THE F---ING BALL.

I haven't watched many Nebraska games this year but it seems like Keller has been unimpressive and Marlon Lucky is bustariffic

...and play defense. They used to play defense in Nebraska...

I think it was Spielman on the radio that called for the black shirts to be taken away from Nebraska until they learn how to tackle

It's amazing how far Nebraska is falling, how do their fans put up with Callihan?

Saw this via EDSBS, double checked because I almost thought it was a spoof ... Mizzou QB Chase Daniel (threw for 401 against NU's 3-3-5 stack) blasts Nebraska D-Coordinator Kevin Cosgrove.

Omaha.com Sports Section

"Cosgrove's a very stubborn guy," said Daniel, who threw for 401 yards in a 41-6 Tiger win. "It's always been that way. . . . That's just how he is, that's how they are. They're a bunch of confident guys in what they do, and they felt they had the best chance doing that, so they stuck with it.

"You can't just play one defense the whole entire game," Daniel said. "That's like high school stuff."

You know what? If he tosses for 401 freaking yards, he's allowed to blast the D-coordinator.

Sure, I wouldn't like Todd the Bomber to blast an opposing coach... but it's not like Daniel didn't earn the right to.

Interesting contrast -

Mizzou plays the spread against Nebraska - who go with a 3 man front all game, and fail abysmally.

Purdue played the spread against Ohio State - who go with a 3 man front all game, and throttle the spread.

Maybe it isn't the scheme per se, but the ability of the personnel to execute that scheme. Ohio State had extra DBs who closed down the pass game, plus they took away the run completely. They tackled crisply all night in all except perhaps three instances, whether it was a run or pass play called by Purdue.

Nebraska not only gave up the 411 yards through the air, but yielded another 195 yards on the ground - 70+ of that from Daniels' legs.

Like Spielman said, take away the black shirts.
